VP of Marketing @ Workshop | Internal Marketing & Communications | Branding, Content, and Growth Strategy
IT'S TIME!!! I'm absolutely over the moon to be opening the role for our very first, foundational internal communications manager. I've been dreaming and scheming about this hire for quite some time. Here are a few reasons why it's such an important role to us: 1.) It's early. Many would say that it's still *too* early (we're at about 60 employees). But instead of hiring your first internal comms role to inherit a mess and fix it all when it's broken, what if you could build it right from the beginning?! That's the opportunity we want to chase here. 💖 2.) This role will report into marketing because I have a deep passion for building more transparency into internal communications. I want us to show our work, share our emails, and speak publicly about specific campaigns that are doing well (or not so well). 3.) Internal communications is truly CELEBRATED at Workshop. We exist because we believe in creating more happy Mondays for employees everywhere through great internal comms. Our platform is built for internal communications only. Not only will you be supported in all of the work that you do, but you'll help us shape the product and create better experiences for internal communicators everywhere. It's such a unique and key role, and if you know anyone who would be a great fit (or want more details), please message me and check out more via the job listing! Note*: At this time, the role is not open to a fully remote candidate, but if you're open to relocating to the lovely Omaha, Nebraska...let's talk. ;) Details here: https://lnkd.in/g44mTBzV

💡 If you're looking for a new Communications roles in 2024, here are a couple of quick fire tips to increase your visibility on LinkedIn from lovely people like me: 👨💻 LinkedIn optimisation - use your 'about' section with great effect! 1️⃣ If you have had abstract job titles throughout your career, use your 'about' section to define the more generic terms of roles you would be suitable for. e.g. Head of Communications, Communications Director, Head of Internal Communications 2️⃣ It's worth clearly listing the industries that you have worked in your 'about' section too. e.g. Financial Services, Professional Services, B2B, SaaS. 3️⃣ Include your key skills in your 'about' section. e.g. PR, Media Relations, C-suite engagement, Internal Communications. It's no lie that 2023 had it's challenges but 2024 has a good feel to it already. Keep positive out there and don't give up hope! If I can help with anything, please feel free to reach out.

Chief Communications Officer | Corporate marketing leader and brand strategist | SABRE and Shorty award-winner | Neurodiversity champion 💥
What’s the first communications hire you should make? PR? Analyst Relations? Internal Comms? Social Media? Executive Comms? Content Strategist? Something else? . . . I give the same answer anytime someone asks me this question: It depends on your business, your goals, and your resources. So, the truthful answer is that there is no "right" answer. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to communications. And spoiler alert: anyone who tells you otherwise probably isn’t paying attention to what your business actually needs. 💡 Smart communications leaders know which levers to pull at the right time to make the most impact. (And we know that “build it and they will come” is just wishful thinking, no matter what your founder says.) ❇️ Are you in growth mode? Analyst relations could be where you focus your limited resources, building credibility with influential stakeholders who can help get your name into customer conversations. ❇️ Recently got funding? PR might be the right move to build thought leadership and credibility in the media. You want your name in headlines, not just investor pitch decks. ❇️ Scaling quickly? Internal comms is key to keeping your team aligned and engaged. If your employees aren’t in the loop, how can you expect anyone else to be? ❇️ Building brand awareness? A social media expert can amplify your message, engage your audience, and create moments that get people talking. This is where your brand’s personality really comes to life. ❇️ Got a visionary executive? An executive comms pro can craft sharp, strategic messaging, positioning your leadership as authentic and credible voices in the industry—boosting your company’s mission both internally and externally. ❇️ Strong customer community? A community manager can nurture relationships, build loyalty, and turn customers into advocates. They can engage your user base and help grow your brand organically. 👉 The bottom line is that who you hire depends on your company's goals, the stage you're in, and what you need to accomplish right now. There will never be a great "rinse and repeat" comms strategy. Great communication strategies are flexible, and your first hire should reflect just that. ✊ So, what do you think? Who do you think the first communications hire should be?

⭐ Talent Alert: Meet Angela M. Romei, Communications Leader ⭐ Angela has a keen ability to align communication strategies with the company/leaders overarching organizational goals and business objectives. Having had the opportunity to partner with Angela at three different companies (WaMu, Microsoft and Nike) I have found her to be highly adaptable to all different types of audiences, platforms, and situations. What I appreciate most about her, is she brings empathy into every interaction and is always leaning in to better understand both the perspective and needs of different stakeholders, both internal and external to help them tailor and refine their communication strategies. Last but not least, Angela has a strong orientation to driving results and is always looking at the effectiveness of the strategies she deploys. She leverages data-driven insights to refine and adjust her strategies accordingly. This is particularly key for companies working within budget constraints. #communicationsleader #brandstrategy #storyteller
Global communications leader | Brand storyteller | Change-maker who activates business plans for emerging and marquee technology brands including Mitek, Microsoft, Avanade and Accenture
After nearly five years leading global public relations and communications for an emerging technology company, where I’ve been challenged in all kinds of new, crazy ways, I’m closing this chapter and looking for my next exciting adventure. If you and your company want to activate and/or advance your business strategy by telling a powerful brand story, we should talk. Compelling communications can raise your company stock price, create category leadership, foster and cultivate brand awareness and influence hearts and minds. I thrive on change, challenges and variety and I love to help people and companies build. Together, let’s propel your business and write a new story. I’ve said goodbye to working with my team that I love so much, it’s time to move on. But of course, I’ll keep them as forever friends! I’m grateful for relationships I will always cherish. Together, we created new opportunities and occasionally navigated stormy seas. Working directly with our CTO and M&A leader, we acquired and integrated two companies. With TEAM LEWIS, we made a name for Mitek Systems in digital identity, briefly achieving #1 in share of voice in the U.S. and Europe, in a space that continues to get more crowded. We had the honor of speaking with the BBC, Financial Times, Daily Mirror, The Stack, Forbes, Fortune, InformationWeek, Verdict, VentureBeat, VMblog, Cyber Magazine, AI Magazine and more respected, trusted Tier 1 tech and business media. I’m most proud of two things: Every day we advocated for and educated businesses about how to keep people safe in the digital world. Also, talented people on my team were recognized and promoted for their value, contributions and excellence, and one person just moved internationally, a win-win for all. (And now she lives by me Teresa Zhou!) What’s next? Here’s what I know: It will be personal and together, we’ll make a difference. Of course, we have AI, machine learning, biometrics, etc.; these are our tools, and we’ll use them for good. At the end of the day, it’s about our relationships and human connection. If you or someone you know is looking for a passionate brand storyteller and experienced communications professional who will intuitively and proactively anticipate what’s next, identify new opportunities and navigate landmines, please reach out. If anyone would like to know a bit more about me, since it’s always about culture fit, I’m proud of what former clients, bosses, business leaders, managers and colleagues shared in their recommendations of me on LinkedIn. Together, let’s build, let’s grow, and let’s co-create what’s possible. p.s. Posting a recent photo taken during a fun side trip to Amsterdam, after a successful business trip to London. Visiting Holland was a dream come true to see the tulip fields. This photo reminds me, and hopefully all of us, to seize opportunities that come our way. Some of our best opportunities we find… and some find us! Always be open. And stop and see the tulips!

Internal comms seems to have gotten a refresh. As communicating with employees becomes a critical priority for companies, many are looking for internal communications talent who have an editorial bent. -- Amazon is looking for a leader for its workplace and operations executive communications team -- Law firm Latham & Watkins is hiring a director of internal communications Goldman Sachs is looking for a VP-level role to lead internal communications -- Notion is looking for an executive to lead content and communications for its workforce and employees -- Fintech startup Ripple is looking for an internal communications manager who will “own” the editorial calendar -- Understood.org is looking for a director of internal communications who will be responsible for creating content for internal channels. -- McCann Worldgroup is looking for a manager who will run newsletters and content across communications teams Companies increasingly view employees as they do external audiences: As people to be engaged with, courted, and communicated with regularly. As a result, a growing number of organizations are developing editorial content aimed specifically at internal audiences. That means content responsibilities are increasingly becoming part of internal communicators’ job descriptions. “One of the big reasons we’re seeing more internal communications and content roles is culture wars,” said Kate Meissner, co-founder at D.C.-based Velocity Partners and a former EVP at Edelman. “People now want their workplaces to be places that institutionalize their values.” “I strongly believe it should be called employee communications,” said Becca Chambers ✨, chief communications officer at ControlUp. “Employees are less engaged and they don’t know how to reach them. That means internal communications needs to be about engagement, culture building, employer branding, and crisis and change management as well.” Will drop the full story in comments below.
