Data from November 2024 suggests that 59% of Irish workers are finding it hard to “switch off from work”.* We understand the importance of getting remote workers away from their desk. That's why we supported Grow Remote volunteers to host a series of social events this month for remote employees all over the country - from after work drinks to yoga, brunch, hiking, a tour of an art gallery and coffee meetups. Last year, Grow Remote hosted social connection events for remote workers across Ireland, Portugal and the UK. We designed these events in response to research highlighting social isolation as a challenge for remote workers. According to a 2023 FRS report, 30% of remote workers say their biggest challenge is “less colleague interaction” while a further 28% it is “switching off from work” is their main challenge.* This month, we are hosting various social events for remote workers including after work drinks, yoga, brunch, hiking, a tour of an art gallery and coffee meetups. Remote work isn't just changing how we work. It's changing where we live. The rise of "workcations" is reshaping travel: • Digital nomads are on the move • Hotels are becoming offices • Cities are competing for remote talent But here's what most people miss: This isn't just a trend. It's a lifestyle shift. And it's creating massive opportunities: 1. For destinations: - Offer high-speed Wi-Fi everywhere - Create co-working spaces with a view - Host events for nomad networking 2. For businesses: - Develop "work from anywhere" policies - Offer stipends for workcations - Build global, distributed teams 3. For individuals: - Blend work and adventure - Experience new cultures while earning - Expand your global network The future of work is flexible. The future of travel is productive. Are you ready for this shift? Your business might depend on it. What's your take on the workcation trend? Share your thoughts below.

"Remote work is lonely" - not anymore 🙅🏼♀️ Recent discussions on LinkedIn and various studies have highlighted a concerning trend: the learning curve for people working remotely declines, they are less happy, and their social skills worsen. What about remote work communities? Who said remote workers work alone? I personally spend part of the year in Ericeira, Portugal. I don't miss a traditional work community at all because I have my own here, a remote work community. We collaborate or work independently during the day, then unwind together - surfing, exercising, dining, and embracing life to its fullest. ✨ We're a group of Finnish professionals working in people and communication fields. Thanks to our similar backgrounds, language, and business environments in which we operate, it's easy to exchange thoughts and ideas and, most importantly, spar and learn from each other. While we don't share an employer (some are entrepreneurs, others have employers who has enabled remote work), we're united by our desire for a fulfilling work-life balance that energizes rather than exhausts us. That's why we are here and working like this. This lifestyle inspired me to found my company, structuring it entirely around this concept. It's opened doors to new friendships, fresh perspectives, and the courage to do differently - a contrast to the limited outlook of my previous work life. I don't miss traditional office culture, and I don't miss anything from that traditional work life. This is my work life now, and for many others too 💙 Remote work communities aren't just an alternative – they're the future of work 🌎 Thanks to this season's colleagues for fun and productive co-working & living time Karolina Miller, Tiina Takala, Hanna Kontinen, Heidi Nurmi & Faycal Jadda ! For those interested in discussing strategies for improved work-life balance, I'll be in Helsinki until the end of September. Feel free to reach out – I'd love to connect! #remotework #community #futureofwork #worklifebalance #learning #knowledge #entrepreneur #HRD

𝘞𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬 𝘢𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘦, 𝘥𝘰 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘨𝘦𝘵 𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘭𝘺? This was a question asked in the Remote Work Spain Facebook group this morning, by somebody who has just secured their first fully remote position. And it's a completely understandable concern, because whatever else going to work in somebody else's office may have meant, there would have been other people around. Not people you chose or had anything particularly in common with, but... people! Ready-made watercooler buddies, lunch partners, gossip sharers, and hopefully ultimately some lasting and meaningful friendships too. When you work remotely, this is one of the many areas which is now completely under YOUR control! No more default relationships chosen by someone else, or putting up with people you don't like just because you share a space. But no more done-for-you proximity either. Now, YOU GET TO CHOOSE who you hang out with and give your time to, 𝗕𝘂𝘁 - 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗛𝗔𝗩𝗘 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝘀𝗲. Considering working remotely but not sure where to go? Look no further than Remote's latest report on the best destinations for remote work. The report evaluated thousands of locations and several factors. Great to see Portugal ranking an impressive second. I would argue for it to take the top spot, but that's just personal bias. What are some key considerations for brands looking to appeal to remote workers and digital nomads? 6 factors that usually matter (these may vary for different people, from how important it is to what's considered good/suitable): ⭐ Basic infrastructure to be able to work. Like good wifi, a comfortable space to work from, coffee shops, and co-working options. Plus for smooth payment options, such as paying with a card in at least some places, even if it isn’t a dealbreaker if you can’t. It's about expectation management 😉 ⭐ Good accommodation options suitable for longer stays that aren’t too overpriced (from a few weeks to a few months) ⭐ A welcoming atmosphere and culture ⭐ A community of locals and nomads. So much potential when you connect your local community with talents from all over the world ⭐ Events, from business meet-ups to concerts, cultural experiences, mindfulness, sports, or gastronomy centered around meaningful connection ⭐ Specific interests/passions - some travel to spend more time on what they love. Could be anything from hiking and food, to martial arts, personal development, etc. The community is more diverse than most think. You will find all kinds of people, ages, travel styles, set-ups, and preferences. Some want to go where there are established nomad communities, while others are open to exploring unknown places to connect with another world. Some travel full-time, while others have a base and do part-time nomading. And I could go on… Instead of assuming and basing decisions on stereotypes, the best way to find out what your target group is looking for is to research and ask. Identify what your destination offers and who'd appreciate that. Then focus on those people, instead of trying to appeal to everyone 😎 (One often overlooked factor is to include the local community from the beginning. From awareness campaigns educating about the potential upsides to co-creating strategies ensuring sustainable growth. Don't skip this part as it's the most important 😊) ➡ What would you add? 📷 Café/co-working in Santa Cruz, Bolivia #digitalnomads #futureofwork #remoteworkers

The last three weeks, I had the pleasure of working remotely from the sunny island of Ibiza. I worked hard during business hours but also took full advantage of the warm climate and quality family time. However, working remotely with (currently) most clients based in the Netherlands and UK requires more than just packing your laptop—it takes some preparation. Here are some #wingedtips for efficient remote work: 🌞WiFi or 5G is a must! Without a stable connection, doing my work is impossible. I therefore triple-checked the rental house for both 5G and WiFi, and funny enough, some clients mentioned I had a better connection in Ibiza than I do in Amsterdam! 🌞Find a great workspace. Whether it’s your rental house or a nearby co-working space, you need a comfortable spot to work. Although the rental house already gave me enough space, I also found theHUB. Ibiza just a 5-minute drive away, offering flexible short-term memberships and excellent networking opportunities. 🌞Invest in a good nanny (if working abroad with kid(s)). Having support is essential. My daughter and I spent the first two weeks alone in Ibiza (my husband joined later), and I was so relieved when our nanny arrived. She knew exactly when I had calls or needed quiet time to focus. 🌞Set clear boundaries with clients and other stakeholders. Make sure to communicate your working hours and when you're off-duty. I let my clients know that I was fully available for calls/meetings from 10 AM to 3 PM, and then again from 8 PM onwards—no matter how late! 🌞Choose a location that suits you. Remote work isn’t just about where you work, but how it makes you feel. I truly found relaxation and well-being in the sun, warmth, and a place I already know very well. Remote working can be incredibly rewarding when you set it up right! #remotelyworking #workingabroad #wingedtips
