But you'll always remember the day you went out and did something a little bit crazy, something a little bit off reservation.
Reasonable people get reasonable results,
unreasonable people get unreasonable results
The stories that we remember, that people remember us by, are when we're coloured outside of the lines.
Yes, there's nothing wrong with making sound choices and decisions, but every now and then you've got a little bit of the crazy through because that is how you build an incredible life.
That is how you have stories that you and other people will remember.

“What am I doing wrong?”
You’ll find out. In this post. Right now. I promise. 😍
In the world of social, and the world in general, we’re competing for attention. Human attention. And the playbook says if we’re going to win, we need to be adding value to people. But what does that really mean? If advertising is about happiness, then we know that “adding value” is about attaching meaning/connection between your “message” and one of these 4 things people actually care about:
1. Making more money
2. Mating (relationships/sex)
3. Health
4. Personal happiness/fulfillment
If we’re not doing that, we’re “out”. Period. End of story (and people listening to us tell it). 🤬
So if we come back to our question, “What am I doing wrong?” And then add the above context here’s our answers:
1. What am I doing wrong? (Making more money)- chances are it’s because we’re probably NOT directing enough outbound effort for our business toward helping people with one of these 4 areas above. People love to spend money (when they can justify it). 😎
3. What am I doing wrong? (Health)-The easy button says “diet and exercise” but the real trick is that we’re probably not spending time each day imagining ourselves as the healthy person we want to be until our bodies and get to craving that image (more than my pop-tart craving) in order to put our phones down and walk to the end of the block (as a start). Ultimately health will be on auto pilot when we do this. 😍
4. What am I doing wrong? (Personal Happiness). I like what Abraham Lincoln said, “most people are about as happy as they make up their mind to be.” Aka it’s a decision. And more often than not we let our inputs do that deciding for us. Tony Robbins says the secret to the art of fulfillment starts with deciding to live in a joyful state. 🤔
2. What am I doing wrong? Mating (relationships/sex). First, if you’ve got this far - thank you for reading. Fun stuff right? Second, the answer I’ve got for you may piss you off. If it does, it’s not my intention but this is the best answer I can give you. My friend Oren Klaff wrote a book about raising venture capital and reading it gave me one of a hand-ful moments in my life regarding relationships that represents a demarcation of “before and after”. In fact anyone who knows me well has heard me speak to this ad nauseam. EVERY relationship in my life changed on Feb 16th, 2016 when I realized the power of “eradicating validation-seeking behavior from my life.” 🤯 It was the biggest mic drop moment in my adult years and for those of you out there looking to get things moving in the right direction in relationships, this works for S.E.X. as well as it works for sales. 😉

When you think of the things you want to talk about, the stories you share with your kids, your partner, friends, family, whoever it is, it's not about the epic new couch you got or your fantastic new desk chair.
The things that really stick, the things that are interesting are the stories about the time you did that, or the people involved, or when it was really tough, or the experiences that you had. It's not about your fancy new rug.
As the great sage Tyler Durden says, be careful that the things you own don't end up owning you.
People, stay happy, stay healthy,
build your story out of experiences,
not out of something from a shop
