💭 Me thinking out loud: Someone in my contacts started a new job and the tile was 6 or 7 words! I had to read it few times and I was still “whaaaat?!” 🤷🏻♀️ I don’t get the titles that have more than 4 words! I mean you can have two roles, each with 3 words, but what is “senior vice president of market management and market communication”?! ⁉️ Why Senior? Is there a junior version of that VP position? No junior will become a VP! Or is the person has to be older than 65 years and called senior by government? What were you thinking?! Why VP? Why not Head? Does this depend on the size of the team reporting to you? Why can‘t it be „head of marketing“? Why aren‘t we happy with simplicity anymore? Who is creating these confusing titles? Why can’t we stick to typical understandable titles? What’s wrong with us? And here goes the spiral! 😵💫 #corporate_language P.s. this is not his title!

All of this! Communications is more than just your earned media hits and digital platforms. If you are including comms at the end of an initiative or rollout, it may be already too late.

🚫 Communications teams are not… …just PR. …a cost center. …a “nice to have.” …one-size-fits-all. …about fluff or spin. …schedule coordinators. …the “social media people.” …email and press release editors. …order takers waiting for instructions. …reactive—we are a proactive, data-driven function. ✅ Communications is a strategic business function. ✅ Comms is the voice, reputation, and trust of the brand. ✅ Comms shapes internal culture and drives organizational alignment. ✅ Comms builds relationships with customers, partners, analysts, and investors. ✅ Comms influences stakeholders' perceptions at every touchpoint. ✅ Comms leads thought leadership and positions your brand as a trusted authority. ✅ Comms is the engine behind effective change management and transformation. ✊ Comms deserves a seat at the table.

You can't deploy your strategy without effective communications. Why? Because no one understands what you're trying to achieve. No one gets WHY you're doing what you're doing. And they certainly can't piece together how their role impacts it. You could have the best strategy in the world, but if you're the only one that understands it, it's useless. If you want to be successful, you have to communicate well.

We're also not "comms." We're Communication ("the IMPARTING or INTERCHANGE of thoughts, opinions, or information by speech, writing, or signs"). "Comms" is the "MEANS of sending messages, orders, etc., including telephone, telegraph, radio, and television." All of that to say, Communication is a PRACTICE, not an object.
