GSBA is excited to let you know that The Washington State Department of Commerce has asked us to reach out to the LGBTQ+ community on their behalf. Specifically, they want to hear about what types of facilities (housing and/or non-housing) are most needed in the coming 5-10 years. This information will be used to determine how funding is distributed by the Dept. Of Commerce to Community-Based Organizations who are planning capital projects. The survey has only 3 questions and should not take you more than 5 minutes to complete. The final question of the survey will ask you if you are willing to participate in a follow-up interview, and GSBA is offering stipends ($45-$105) to LGBTQ+ community members (including extra $ for child/adult care if needed) who are willing to elaborate further on their initial responses via a ~30-minute, virtual meeting with a GSBA team member. Take the survey here: bit.ly/GSBANeedsSurvey

It's crucial that NGOs and organizations working to support marginalized groups, like disabled individuals and the LGBTQ+ community, rely on accurate data. Overestimating figures or misrepresenting information to gain more attention or funding can lead to misallocated resources and undermine the credibility of these organizations. Transparency and integrity are essential to ensure that the efforts genuinely benefit the communities they aim to support and that trust is maintained. Based on my experience working with such NGOs, I believe we must prioritize accurate data to create effective programs that truly address the needs of these communities.

🌈 June may be over, but fostering inclusivity and diversity within the Interim community is a natural extension of our core values. Respect and Kindness: Interim respects and celebrates all gender identities, expressions, and sexual orientations. We use hope, education, peer advocacy, and empowerment to create safe spaces for members of the LGBTQ+ community. Safe spaces where identities are not disregarded, overlooked or marginalized but rather respected and celebrated. Interim provides quarterly Safe Zone training to direct care and non-direct care staff, which focuses on learning about LGBTQ+ identities, gender and sexuality, and examines prejudice, assumptions, and privilege. The goal of providing these trainings is to educate and bring awareness to the stigma that members of the LGBTQ+ community face. Welcoming Community: In order to grow and evolve to meet the needs of the community, Interim will continue to actively advocate for and listen to the voices of the LGBTQ+ community. Through this advocacy, Interim can provide culturally appropriate and inclusive care. "One in three LGBTQ+ have experienced homeless displacement in their lifetime compared to one in five in 2019. Of the respondents who indicated that they experienced homelessness or displacement, the most common reason for their experience was being forced by family members because of their LGBTQ+ identity." We need more tolerance and education for LGBTQ+ needs, starting at HOME. Too many LGBTQ+ Jamaicans have been displaced at some point in their life, simply for being who they are! What are your thoughts? The full survey report is available in the resources section of our website - equalityjamaica.org #IDAHOT #DAHOTWeek2024 #EqualityForAll #EFAF25

Put your money where your pride is 🏳️🌈 Resources to help in our recent blog post!
Seattle’s first Pride took place 50 years ago in June 1974. More than 200 LGBTQ+ people gathered publicly for the first time - no longer willing to hide or be denied the right to exist. The echoing cry was “NOW” - which has become the commemorative theme of Seattle Pride 50. At Humanize Wealth, we believe that we are at the crossroads of a massive opportunity for using wealth, and its associated power, to drive positive social outcomes. In the spirit of Seattle Pride 50, we encourage you to get involved and support LGBTQ+ rights, initiatives and businesses this month – and all year round. Our blog features 5 KEY RESOURCES: 1. GSBA's 2024 Pride Guide 2. Intentionalist's Pride-Month-Marketplace Guide 3. The Human Rights Campaign's Corporate Equity Index 4. Nonprofits and LGBTQ+ services to support 5. 🌈 LGBTQ+ people have contributed and continue to contribute to the United States economy with charisma and boldness! The impact of queer innovation could be amplified even further with inclusive public policies and greater access to capital. That’s why we created the StartOut Index- a tool that analyzes and displays the current state of LGBTQ+ entrepreneurship and models where it can grow to be, thanks to the data contributions of our community! 🔍 If you’re wondering about the demographics of LGBTQ+ and women founders across the country or in your local community, check out our interactive map at startout.org/index. (P.S. you can also look through our 2023 State of LGBTQ Entrepreneurship Report while you’re there!) #StartOut #StartOutIndex #QueerInnovation #LGBTQInnovation #LGBTQEntrepreneur

According to The Trevor Project, LGBTQ+ youth are at risk because of a lack of acceptance, understanding, empathy, and compassion. That lack comes at a great cost: a national survey conducted in 2023 found 41% of LGBTQ+ youth have seriously considered suicide in the last year. LifeWorks NW is proud to participate in Zero Suicide, a nationwide initiative to bring together care providers and communities to end suicide. One tool our communities can use: 988. Call or text to connect with a trained counselor and local services, including specialists in youth or LGTBQ+ care.
