A careers site is the one of the most important windows into your organisation. Whether it's your internal or external site - you want to show your colleagues or your candidates the art of possible. Whether that’s your next internal step, or your next new role or challenge. That’s why, over the past few months we have been squirrelling away, reshaping both our internal and external careers sites. Why we wanted to ensure our internal candidate experience was as important as our external candidate experience. A business runs with people. And a successful business runs with the right people. It has been a huge programme to deliver, and of course no programme of work actually works without a whole bunch of people behind the scenes to make it happen. Every day really was a learning day, and it was amazing to be able to collaborate with so colleagues across the business, both those who shared their expertise for us to deliver these sites and so many colleagues who gave us insight into their area so we could bring it to life. And of course our agency support who took our vision and turned it into reality. There are so many people to thank but the biggest shout out goes to these guys, for their expertise, guidance, helping in navigating inevitable bumps and hurdles and most of all support. Without a great team, we wouldn't have two brilliant websites. Companies usually look for experience because they think it means less training is needed and the person can handle the job right away. But, I want to share why it's great to also consider hiring people who are new to the workforce or those making a career change. Here’s why: 👉 Fresh Ideas: People who are new or changing careers see things with fresh eyes. They bring ideas that no one else thinks of because they aren’t stuck in the usual ways of doing things. This can lead to some amazing solutions that experienced folks might miss! 👉 Eager to Learn: Newcomers and career changers are usually super eager to prove themselves. They dive into learning and work hard to show they can do a great job. Their drive to succeed often leads them to go above and beyond what’s expected. 👉 Grow Together: Teaching someone new skills helps the whole team get better. It’s like being on a team where everyone helps each other improve. We learn new ways of thinking and different approaches to problems. So, while experience is important, don’t overlook the potential of someone who is starting fresh or looking to switch gears.
