🩺 Today, on World Lung Day, we recognise the urgent need to address the growing problem of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (#COPD) and highlight the advancements being made in its treatment and management. As we observe this day, we want to shine a light on our dedicated partners from the European Respiratory Society and their recent successful event, the #ERS Congress 2024, held in Vienna, Austria. 📍 From 7-11 September, we were honoured to showcase our EU PAL-COPD project at one of the largest events in the respiratory care field. This event brought together over 20,000 delegates, both in-person and online, to share the present the latest advances in respiratory medicine and science. 📅 Looking ahead, we are thrilled to share that the next ERS Congress will be held in Amsterdam, Netherlands from 27 September to 1 October, 2025. With a theme of "Respiratory Health Around the Globe," the congress will focus on finding global solutions to improve respiratory health, addressing the challenges and differences faced by individuals worldwide. 👋 See you there! This year, #RareDiseaseDay falls on the rarest day of the year. Recognized on the last day of February since its creation in 2008, Rare Disease Day acts as the globally coordinated movement on rare diseases, working towards equity in social opportunity, healthcare, and access to diagnosis and therapies for people living with a rare disease. A rare disease is classified as one that affects fewer than one in 2,000 people. Collectively, however, there are over 7,000 known rare diseases that affect 300 million people worldwide. The New York Academy of Sciences is committed to creating space to advance global opportunities to support medical expertise, knowledge, and research in this field through a variety of symposiums, panel discussions, and webinars.
