Asking for help can be really challenging, especially when you bootstrap yourself as a young career woman. In launching my startup and seeking fractional Ops work, I am in the position of needing help- from colleagues vouching for me, to colleagues and mentors giving advice, to employment and engagement offers. I love being in the position of connector, mentor, and supervisor giving others opportunity. Who doesn't??? But this flux and new challenge keeps me light on my feet, grateful, and incredibly adaptive. What events in life have helped you cultivate a growth mindset? How has asking for help changed you? #pivot #careerdevelopment #womeninbusiness

July is almost here, which means I’m one month closer to beginning my 3rd academic year as Dean of Students. Here are a few of my perspectives and thoughts about the role: 1. DOS must be a “Swiss army knife” when it comes to your skillset and solving complex issues. You will have to lean on prior experience as you navigate situations that challenge to you think creatively to identify solutions. 2. No day or situation will be the same, so you must be able to be agile and flexible as a DOS. You will often find yourself making adjustments “mid game” as you navigate your respective campus. 3. As DOS, stakeholders (especially students) will expect you to have at least basic knowledge of processes and procedures associated with other areas on campus OR at least know which direction to point them in to address their concerns. Seek knowledge so you can be an invaluable resource. 4. Establishing strategic partnerships across campus will allow you to be most effective in your role. It allows others to see you as a team player, while also allowing them to see your work and become advocates. More to come but I’d love to hear thoughts from fellow DOS! #StudentAffairs #DeanofStudents #HigherEd

I graduated with 3rd class honors! Oh, sorry, it was not a 3rd class but a pass. You rarely see such messages online; why? Because people won't share when they lose. People would only share their wins. That's why you would only see messages like "Best graduating student in my faculty" or "First class honors with a 4.8 CGPA" and the like. Have you ever asked yourself where those who graduated with 2nd-class lower honors, 3rd-class honors, and a pass are? Are they not on LinkedIn? The answer is yes; they are here on LinkedIn, many of them, but they don't post it online because, to them, it may not be the win they desire. ____________________ The moral of the story is that you need to understand that on social media, people always post their wins and barely post their losses. I know you have been seeing so many wins from other people, and it's making you feel like your life is not worth it. You probably feel like you wasted 2023 without achieving anything. Maybe because you didn't hit the target you wanted. Just know that being alive is the highest level of achievement you could ask for. Just be grateful. 😥 You got a lot of rejection emails, project declines, and negative reviews in 2023. Even the best of us get rejection emails sometimes. 😪 I know the negative reviews are painful and demoralizing, but they are just opinions of the reviewers and shouldn't define your skillsets or 2024 progress for you. ____________________ Dear, you, I don't know how you feel right now, but I'm here to root for you this year, 2024, to keep going. I wish you a happy new year. May 2024 be good for you and me. ____________________ Anyway, I didn't graduate with a 3rd Class or a Pass 😎 🤗 #newbeginnings #happynewyear #growthenthusiast #growth #new
