From the Philly Voice, "Support for nuclear power has gained bipartisan momentum in recent years. The technology is touted as a vital part of the strategy to reduce carbon emissions by scaling back reliance on fossil fuels. It's also viewed as a way for the United States to solidify energy independence." https://lnkd.in/e79CxdQH.

On September 20th, Microsoft announced a 20-year deal with Constellation Energy to buy nuclear power from Three Mile Island’s Unit 1 once it’s reopened. As clean energy demand grows, experts consider the logistics, safety, and the potential of using old sites for advanced reactors where refurbishing existing ones may not be possible. 🌍 Reviving US Nuclear Plants: A Bold Step in the Energy Transition As electricity demand surges across the US, there’s a renewed push to bring retired nuclear plants back online. Holtec International, NextEra Energy, Inc., and Constellation Energy are leading efforts to revive plants like Palisades and Three Mile Island, blending legacy infrastructure with cutting-edge technology. This isn't just a restart; it’s about reimagining nuclear power’s role in a cleaner, carbon-free future. The journey is complex—balancing high costs and regulatory hurdles—but the potential benefits in energy security and emissions reduction make it worth watching. ⚛️🌱 #NuclearRevival #CleanEnergy #EnergyTransition #BaseloadPower #Holtec #NextEraEnergy #ConstellationEnergy #NetZero

If we're serious about de-carbonization and a transition to a more sustainable energy future, then nuclear power is a clear policy choice. Renewables have their place, but nearly all renewables except hydro-electric power are ill-suited to provide the "base load" power that is always on nuclear can provide. On top of that, the technology to recycle spent fission reactor fuel has existed since the 1960s, so the "waste" problem from spent fuel rods is relatively small. #nuclearpower #decarbonization #renewable #cleanenergy

EVP Canada, Nuclear at AtkinsRéalis and President and CEO Candu Energy Inc. Helping to engineer a better future for our planet and its people.
As the Original Equipment Manufacturer of CANDU technology, explaining the merits of nuclear power is an important part of my job at AtkinsRéalis, and one I enjoy. Increasingly, journalists have taken an interest in the technology; the nuclear renaissance, the energy transition, and government interest in life extension of CANDU assets or even in building new ones, likely explains why. In speaking to Paul Day from Reuters, I explained the unique features of CANDU technology that lend themselves well to life-extensions (think of replacing the engine in a really good car). I also had the chance to talk about our new, 1,000 MW CANDU MONARK reactor- the most powerful and advanced CANDU unit ever conceived. https://lnkd.in/gGgEbgpS #CANDUforCanada #NetZeroNeedsNuclear

At Energy Northwest we have been measuring public sentiment towards nuclear power for decades. In WA State it has historically been 50/50 but with a large contrast between the more liberal western side of the state (75/25 unfavorable) and the more conservation eastern side where the Pacific Northwest’s only operating nuclear plant is located (75/25 favorable). In our last survey favorability is now 75/25 across the state. To successfully address climate change AND maintain a reliable and resilient electrical grid many now realize an “all options” approach is required: intermittent renewable resources paired with firm baseload generation. Thanks to our state government for leaning forward to support our study of new nuclear. https://lnkd.in/gqnXS3m3

Diablo Canyon nuclear plant in California has been approved to run for a further 5 years to 2030. It's an interesting choice because the plant is located close to a fault line, but it's run since the mid-1980s without trouble. However it's not ideal - the extension reflects fears over market tightness. It's also part of a wider nuclear renaissance in the US (and elsewhere). #nuclearenergy #nuclearpower https://lnkd.in/eGntCub9
