☃️ "Making Britain a clean energy superpower will not happen without a commitment to insulating homes and decarbonising British heat. It’s time to make the bold, but worthwhile choice to tackle emissions and future-proof our energy system." 👣 Did you catch our Vice President Wera Hobhouse in Left Foot Forward yesterday? Wera argues that the Government's ambition for power generation, through policies like GB Energy, needs to be matched with equal ambition for decarbonising heat. 🗞️ Read more here - tinyurl.com/nhhwrtxv

Here’s some good news (in case you missed it) … The UK's last coal-fired power plant, Ratcliffe-on-Soar, closed yesterday, ending the UK’s use of coal for electricity. We must of course ensure every effort is taken to support the working people affected by this, but it’s great to be one step closer to a fossil free energy infrastructure. The pathway to Net Zero
Last week the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero formally asked the Electricity System Operator (ESO) to develop advice on how to achieve a decarbonised power system by 2030. In response, I’ve shared an open letter to industry outlining how the ESO will develop our plan, how it will interact with other energy reforms and how we’ll engage with industry through the process. We welcome the ambition set by the UK Government and look forward to contributing by undertaking this critical analysis. Read my letter below. ⬇
