An open-access model for passenger rail is working well in Europe. We would do well to do something similar here. It could be done by purchasing excess rights-of-way (ROW) or even just extra ROW width (the latter could be done on the Lakeshore Corridor), and laying separate track for passenger trains. Then open it up to competition from multiple operators: https://lnkd.in/gPhNVTSh

IT’S ANNOYING IF YOU CAN’T TRUST THE TRAIN Copenhagen S-train stands out with its top punctuality, but some places around the country call for improved rail operations. Langeskov Station is facing the frustration of missed stops. Recent statistics from DSB reveal that trains overlooked Middelfart Station five times last year, highlighting a concerning trend that affects passengers across the country. Referring to Tony Bispeskov, DSB's information chief, these lapses are not isolated incidents, and the railway operator is actively working to reduce the number of missed stops by engaging in thorough discussions with locomotive drivers following each occurrence. Such incidents not only disrupt travel plans but also raise questions about the reliability of rail services. How this could be improved? Share your suggestions.
