Imagine navigating Spaghetti Junction at 180mph while the Big Dipper whizzes over your head and some kid yeets their pool noodle onto the track... Bit far-fetched? Maybe this track is, too. Saudi Arabia has announced its plan for a new F1 Grand Prix venue. The new circuit would replace Jeddah as Round 2 of the calendar and features a 20-storey-high elevation to Turn 1... Just when we thought F1 couldn't get any more glamorous than Las Vegas... - The track will feature a theme park with the tallest, longest and fastest rollercoaster entangling with the circuit (all of the superlatives... widest? Unnecessaryist? Over-the-top-for-the-sake-of-it-ist?) - There'll be a swimming pool with a glass bottom which overlooks part of the track (a very very safe and sensible idea) - And this all feeds into F1's $half-a-billion deal with the Saudi Arabian government and Aramco (both very ethical and humane don't worry) Expect tickets to start from a year's worth of mortgage payments. And don't forget your trunks and snorkel. Am I being a grumpy arse wishing for classic tracks to return to the calendar or am I just shit at Rainbow Road and spitting the dummy out? "The changes are an important and necessary step to improve the WHS and in some cases to finalize what was not done four years ago at the launch of the system" said Chairman of the EGA Handicapping & Course Rating Committee, Richard Cau.   "The most important change is the reduction of the minimum length to rate a course. This will have an enormous impact on the golfing sector, helping major countries to grow the game and emerging countries to develop it." Quick update on our LIV Golf direct-to-consumer viewership for our third league event, LIV Golf Jeddah, as our phenomenal audience growth continues in double and triple digits: +87% viewership increase vs. our 2023 Jeddah event +101% viewership increase vs. our third event of 2023 (Orlando) We also pinned an increase on our final round Sunday Jeddah US CW broadcast coverage of +38% year over year vs Jeddah 2023. That's three consecutive events showing double-digit or triple-digit growth on linear in the US, with international media partner viewership numbers coming soon. Finally, our Friday Jeddah full event coverage on our new partner Caffeine (thank you Tori Socha) in the US has seen over 2M views live and on-demand, bringing golf coverage to a younger demographic (75% of caffeine's 60 million active users are under the age of 35) who consume primarily on mobile (over 90% of their users watch on mobile devices). Caffeine has delivered over 4M views for the overall Jeddah event content inclusive of our Club 54 Pre- and Post-Round Shows, extended highlights, Fairway to Heaven Podcast, LIV Lessons, Heng Time, What The Feherty, and our other short-form pieces. All told, across our D2C platforms and Caffeine, we are north of 6M total event-related LIV content views for our Jeddah event. Digital views to uniques aren't always translated in a straight line, but this basically means that over 4 million viewers checked out LIV Golf League coverage around our Jeddah event. All following our premise of superserving consumers where they prefer to consume their content -- nearly reaching a point where broadcast network partners become the bonus on top. Saudi is moving at such a pace and it can be hard to keep up... this Visit Saudi ad hit spot, debunking common perceptions about the Kingdom. I remember the first time I went to Saudi in 2018 - it was starkly different to how it is today. In little over 5 years the change that I have seen personally is amazing! Here's a few things I have seen... 1. F1 - Sure, money talks, but the street circuit and organisation at the Jeddah F1 race is excellent - a lot of races that have been going for 10+ years are worse to go to and the after race concerts are second to none! This is testament to the Kingdoms will to do things well at the first time of asking. 2. AlUla - given the history of the place, it would have been easy to keep AlUla covered and restrict access - by opening up the area, the Kingdom is embracing its history and showcasing wonders that it has to offer - I personally love the Nabatean history and whilst taking a tour of the place, it is great to see how proud Saudis are that AlUla is in their land. A must visit. 3. Saudi's love a chat - Taxi drivers, restaurant staff, coffee shop workers - you will bump into Saudis and you can have a great conversation with them! One of the best things is also how entrepreneurial they are - I have met people, spoken for 10 minutes and come up with new business ideas with them on the fly 20 minutes later - next time you are over, have a chat! 4. Women drive taxis - there is a huge amount of private taxis that are driven by women - especially young Saudi women. If women want to do something... they can! 5. Optimism is infectious - no matter who you speak to, everyone is excited! It's not a money thing, it's an opportunity thing! Everyone is moving in the same direction - to be the best. The buzz is real! Personally, I can't wait to get going in the Kingdom, we have a few things coming up that could be game changers and having met with a lot of people on the ground, I'm excited to see what's to come.
