A young account executive processes transactions. They wonder, "When will I catch a break?" But they are blind to the possibilities before them. The opportunity lies in the breakdowns. A dissatisfied customer is primed to be delighted. A bored customer is hungry for the enticement of an upgrade. A customer in financial distress is open to a renegotiation, in which lower monthly spending is exchanged for a longer term. But the AE who focuses their energy on complaining about the "quality" of their territory, the lack of support they receive, or any number of excuses for their underperformance ignores the opportunities right under their noses. Their lack of curiosity, imagination, and caring leads to them fumbling away opportunity after opportunity. And so, the mediocre results continue... #sales #salescareer

Sales Management: Debunking the Myth of Account Ownership In the world of sales, it is not uncommon for individuals to engage in fierce competition over high-value accounts. If you work in sales, you have likely heard statements like: 1. "This Corporate/Travel Company is under my jurisdiction as a Sales Representative." 2. "I have been managing this account for several years." 3. "The Procurement/Admin head prefers to deal with me." 4. "Assigning this account to someone else will negatively impact the business." However, it is important to take a reality check and understand the truth behind these claims: 1. The accounts, whether they are corporate entities or travel agents, do not belong to you personally. They belong to your employer. 2. Your role is to manage the relationships and facilitate business transactions until your employment ends. 3. Business accounts are not owned by any individual. From these experiences, there are valuable lessons to be learned: 1. Explore new opportunities and develop new accounts to create value propositions. 2. Avoid becoming complacent and maintain a sharp focus on the market and industry trends. 3. Every one in the organization is dispensable. 4. Continuously learn, grow, and embrace new challenges.
