Last week, I attended my first biotech conference in Basel, Switzerland. And honestly? It completely surprised me After joining MedBioinformatics 8 months ago and moving into this new industry, I was really looking forward to the experience. But knowing that some conferences (let’s be honest) don’t always deliver much, I wasn’t sure what to expect. But here’s what actually happened… - We booked 10 meetings at our booth, and 9 out of 10 turned up. I was fully expecting a lot of no-shows! - We ended up having meetings with some of the biggest companies in the space. With us being a small company, I thought maybe they wouldn’t be that interested in talking to us. I was wrong! - Having lunch, we even got some feedback on a new feature we’ve recently added to DISGENET from someone at a big company, which was really encouraging to hear. - I had the chance to shadow our Head of Bioinformatics and co-founder throughout the day. It was great to see how she introduces the product, the types of questions people typically ask, and how she answers them. I soaked up everything to help improve my own pitch going forward. - Our booth was pretty minimal – just a banner, some leaflets, and the two of us, but we didn’t stop talking all day! People actually stopped and waited to chat with us about DISGENET. No giveaway, no coffee machine, no branded pens, like they say you need. Just a clear banner sharing the product seemed to be enough to grab attention. So that's BioTechX done for this year.
