This campaign is the perfect example of a 'Clocks vs Clouds' problem. a) At an individual level sizing may be perceived as a 'labelling' exercise. But at a store level, sizing is used everyday as a 'way-finding' tool. b) Sizing metrics between women's clothing brands is vastly different. This variance again is a way-finding problem, not a perception issue. Both these problems are 'clock' problems. They are problems of systemic complexity i.e. a contextual problem. The campaign however has identified a 'cloud' problem - how to make a customer feel better about the sizing of the garment i.e. a perceptual problem. Aiming to solve for perception rather than context does nothing to affect the reality of the in-store shopping ambiguity. Thus in effect is yet another performative solution to a systemic problem.

Lately, I feel we are regressing in the name of understanding each other better :) In the process of understanding ourselves better. I think it's great that we are open about adult diagnoses, more aware of our quirks and idiosyncrasies. I also love that we are more accepting of neurodivergence and orientation, biorhythms and flexible workplaces. I also often catch myself thinking, if we are creating more silos, more brackets and more labels. Can we be more accepting that this is normal without creating labels? & I say this fully aware of the need for you to call out labels and brackets, highlighting and building awareness of minorities because calling it what it is will create a more equitable and accepting society. But can we also then move on to accept that this is normal *and this is also* normal?? And hence, in a world obsessed with labels :D Max Fashion India refreshing campaign! :D

Inclusivity can be expressed in different ways. By reframing something as commonplace as label sizes, Max Fashion has focused on a larger brand narrative of self love and body positivity. I hope this is just the beginning and Max takes meaningful steps to continue on this brand narrative. Because, we need more voices talking about body positivity for it to make a real difference. #branding #Marketing
