Our new paper is out in Palliative Medicine! Read more to understand how community neurologist training and telehealth palliative care services improved the experience of care for people with #ParkinsonsDisease and related disorders and their care partners.
TL;DR: Dyads in the palliative care intervention reported a wider array of symptoms managed, more time spent on prognostic counseling, greater engagement with the health care team, and increased referrals to community-based resources. However, the addition of multiple team members led to issues with clarity and timeliness of communication. This study highlighted the benefits of palliative approaches in neurodegenerative illness and the importance of care navigation, an unmet need currently being taken on by caregivers and contributing to caregiver burden.
Grateful for the opportunity to have worked with this brilliant research team (Benzi Kluger, Krista Lyn Harrison, Roman A. Ayele, MPH, PhD Jean Kutner, Megan Dini, Steven Pantilat, Stefan Sillau, Zach Macchi, Christine Martin, Maya Katz, and Jacqueline Jones) on this joint effort.
