Transforming Bias in Healthcare – an Invisible Pandemic Thursday, July 18th at 1pm (BST) Register here: https://lnkd.in/eUdSS6FU This Thursday we will present the first global systematic review of bias amongst healthcare professionals (HCP) and its impact on patient outcomes. Led by our behavioural science strategists, Fernanda Trevisan and Ellie Glew, the research uncovers biases including those related to race, gender, socioeconomic status, and cultural prejudices. In the session we will share the shocking truths uncovered in our study, including: • Gender Bias: Women frequently received lower-quality care compared to men, being seen as more ‘communicative’ and as a consequence having their pain taken less seriously. • Age Bias: As patients age, they were 81% less likely to receive cancer surgery or chemotherapy. • Race and Ethnic Bias: African American cancer patients in the US face an 8% higher risk of death compared to White patients and were also less likely to be treated by an oncologist or surgeon. • Stigmatisation Bias: 84% of Type 2 Diabetes patients reported experiencing stigma, such as feeling stigmatised by their doctors, leading to depression and psychological distress. Join us and be part of a transformative conversation! And in the interim, if you would like any further information on the research or the report please do not hesitate to reach out.

Atlantic Council The Atlantic Council asked healthcare experts to weigh in on how #MENA could improve healthcare efficiency. #ML #AI #machinelearning #digitalhealth #IoMT #wearables My response: MENA is a very diverse region; even within a given country or kingdom, there is much heterogeneity with respect to incomes, access, and cultural norms around health. To improve healthcare efficiency, governments will need to increase public health expenditure, diversify financing sources, and implement targeted interventions to address workforce shortages and inequities in access to care. Emphasizing preventive care, wearable and passive IoT technology at the edge, adopting advanced health information systems, deploying machine learning/AI in edge-based computing systems, and enhancing regulatory frameworks are essential.
💡 #ACempowerME asked: How can the #MENA improve healthcare efficiency, and what does it take to achieve this goal? Dr. Divya Chander, Faculty Chair of Neuroscience at Singularity University, weighs in… For the full quote, check out #ACempowerME’s newsletter: ➡️ https://bit.ly/3W1OEO7
