Founder Technician Find | Host of Technician Find Office Hours | Helping Independent Automotive Repair Shops Find Technicians Faster With Creative Ads and Social Media Marketing
"Every shop owner's nightmare: watching a harmonious team get torn apart by a bad hire.🤬 Ever hired an automotive technician only to watch them disrupt your team's harmony? It’s amazing how much damage one bad apple can do in such a short period. A single bad culture fit hire can lead to a domino effect, damaging team morale and your shop's culture. The solution? Discover your core values - and write them down! In How To Be A Great Boss, Gino Wickman shows you exactly how to do this very quickly. Step 1 - Think about three people in your business today that you admire and wish you could clone. Step 2 - Think about the qualities, actions and character traits that make them such a valuable asset. Step 3 - Write these character traits on a piece of paper and examine them carefully (your core values lie somewhere in this list). Step 4 - Select the top 3 - 7 (less is more) that clearly articulate what you value and stand for as a business. Now you have a concrete list of character traits to evaluate every new prospective team member during the hiring process. The more traits they align with, the better potential they have of fitting in with your shop culture. Of course this process won’t guarantee that every hire you make is a rock star culture fit but it will make those bad hires fewer and farther between. So dive into this simple process today and shield your team from the next potential tornado threatening to tear through your shop.🚫🌪️ #Jobs #Staffing #Employment #StaffingAgency #Repair #Auto #Hiring #Automotive #Mechanic #Technician #TechnicianFind #AutoRepair #AutoRepairShop"

I would have never started this business if my senior hadn't asked me to leave my job. Over time, I learned that I can't do everything alone or with just some people. As you grow, you need more trusted people by your side. • The Wright Brothers didn't create the aeroplane alone. Their team included a skilled mechanic named Charlie Taylor, who helped build it. • The amazing Apple products we love today are not just the work of Steve Jobs. Hundreds of engineers, designers, and workers at Apple made them possible. Even for individual work like writing, making music, or creating art, teams are involved - editors, producers, rehearsal pianists, studio assistants, and more. Rarely is anything created completely alone. The simple truth is that diverse teams can achieve a much greater impact than solo efforts. When you bring together varied skills, perspectives, and backgrounds toward one goal, your capabilities multiply. So don't idolize the myth of the "self-made" person. Build an unstoppable team around you. Create an environment where collaboration, not individual glory, is rewarded. Because at the end of the day, the highest peaks of success are only possible by climbing together as a united team. #CollaborativeSuccess #TeamEffort #TeamPlayer

I spent 13 years at 3M and what a (more than a) decade it was! Now this stage of my journey is ending. When I look back, I see how many great and diverse things this trip has offered me: stability but challenges, safety and also excitement, mostly up's and sometimes down's, but most importantly: constant opportunity to work with wonderful people. Here are my travel essentials that I will bring with me to the next miles: - Collaboration rulez. We need to discover what is our power that we can add to the team's synergy. - Communication is my passport. What a gift that we can talk and listen to others! - Ownership and responsibility are super important. Without having them, you can't start to build anything. - Well, I like people but believe in processes... but I am also ready to educate and engage people why these processes are important. - Adaptation is critical. Environment will always change, let's be the one who can domesticate the raging elements, e.g. wind power from storm, heating from fire. - Be open and never stop learning. - Last but not least: enjoy what you do at your work and be authentic. Thank you everything 3M and my dear 3M friends! #3m #3mer

HERE ARE 5 QUESTIONS YOU CAN ASK TO IDENTIFY YOUR SHOP'S UNIQUENESS📋 Have you ever been at a loss for words when someone asks you what’s unique about your business? It takes a powerful offer to persuade someone to leave their current job and join your team. And powerful offers are created around features and benefits that you can offer and others can’t. Powerful offers can also be crafted through unique combinations of common features and benefits. We ask over 90 questions when we hop on an onboarding call with a new client/shop to get to the core of their uniqueness so we can write compelling ads that attract good technicians. I’m going to let you in on a shortcut. Here are the top five questions that will help you zero in on what makes your shop unique: If a tech told you, "I've got 2 other shops I'm talking to, why should I go with you." What would you say? If you could describe how you operate in three words, what would you say? Do you have a company mission or a vision of the future? Something that employees can get behind and be a part of. It should be short, interesting and inspirational) What do your employees say about working for you? What do they like about working there? What would you say that your company culture is? (Examples: team oriented / family oriented / Individual achievement oriented / goal oriented / etc.) Don’t run another help wanted ad or conduct another interview until you’ve taken 25 minutes to sit down and really think about the answers to these questions. Just the simple act of thinking through the answers to these questions will change the way you communicate with candidates. It will magnify your certainty… …it will demonstrate strong leadership… …it will make every conversation you have more persuasive. And that means, you get to have a fully staffed shop filled with high-performing team members.🔧 #Jobs #Staffing #Employment #StaffingAgency #Repair #Auto #Hiring #Automotive #Mechanic #Technician #TechnicianFind #AutoRepair #AutoRepairShop

There's always times to be modest. But interviewing for your first job is not one of those times. If I were a manager interviewing a Formula SAE student, here are some things I would want to hear about: For starters showcase your knowledge of the industry: Formula 1 is estimated to be around a 15 billion dollar product and you just created a formula-style race car with far fewer resources than Mercedes or Ferrari. Then lean into the following ◾Technical Skill: What role did you specifically play on the team? ◾Teamwork: Formula SAE is not a 1-person job, how'd you collaborate? ◾Passion: Formula SAE isn't a pre-req. Why'd you put in the extra work? Hiring managers, what do you think of my list? Anything to add?

Sign On Bonuses 101: If you don't need to offer one to be competitive in your area, don't. This isn't going to be a dealbreaker for a strong candidate who resonates with your culture. Don't offer anything ridiculous like $10,000 - $15,000 in your ads. Most techs have been or know someone who has been burned by this dealer scam. They know they will never see this $ and it's total B.S. It will hurt your reputation. If you are negotiating with a tech one-on-one, you can offer anything you both agree to that sounds fair. If you are running an ad that lots of techs will see, $2K - $5K is the sweet spot. Pay out a portion when the box drops then the remainder over 30 / 60 / 90 days. Sign on bonuses grab attention but they won't be the primary deciding factor for the right candidate. #Jobs #Staffing #Employment #StaffingAgency #Repair #Auto #Hiring #Automotive #Mechanic #Technician #TechnicianFind #AutoRepair #AutoRepairShop

If you know me personally, you know I'm big on how important self-awareness is. And there's no exception when it comes to hiring. If your company is looking for someone 5 days onsite in a smaller city, paying below market comp with 11 hour workdays, and you're turning down qualified candidates who aren't "perfect", I seriously urge you to ask yourself: do you 𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘶𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘭𝘺 want to fill the role? Look - a lot of times, the parameters are out of a hiring manager's control, so it's a frustrating process. And I totally get it. But you've got to assess your parameters, evaluate your competitiveness in the market, and level your expectations accordingly. Once candidates meet the basic qualifications, there's a spectrum of caliber. Don't get stuck fixating only on top-tier candidates if you don't have a top-tier offering. Would you go into a Ferrari dealership with the budget for a Honda and expect something to magically work out? Of course not. And if at the end of the day, you just need a car... the Honda will do the job perfectly well.
