Two years on, where are they now? “Through a successful collaboration with We World, we were able to identify and serve the most vulnerable people throughout the winter, when temperatures dropped to -16 degrees Celsius,” shares Adela Softic, World Vision's Multi-Project Manager in Moldova. The project funded by Aktion Deutschland Hilft e.V. (ADH) aims to reduce the vulnerability of refugees and crisis-affected host communities, through emergency life-saving assistance. The priority of the program is to strengthen the lifesaving and protective environment and to cover their essential needs. WeWorld Onlus, World Vision's local partner, distributed 3000 food kits and 3000 hygiene kits to households and 1000 winterization kits were handed out to the most vulnerable, including an electric heater and a warming pad. "Partnerships enabled us to reach more people and give much-needed assistance to Ukrainian refugees and hosting communities, both of whom are facing numerous hardships at this time,” shared Giovanna Fotia, Deputy Country Representative, We World Moldova. As we gather with our families to celebrate the joy and peace of Christmas, it's important to remember those who are far from home. This festive season, countless refugees around the world are facing challenges that most of us can hardly imagine. The spirit of Christmas is about giving, kindness, and hope. It's a time when small acts of generosity can make a big difference. The plight of refugees, often fleeing conflict or persecution, is especially poignant during this time of year when the sense of family and belonging is so pronounced. This year, let's come together as a global community to support all refugees. Whether it's through donating to UNHCR, volunteering at local shelters, or simply spreading awareness about the refugee crisis, every effort counts. By offering our support, we're not just providing material aid – we're giving the gift of hope and showing that even in their darkest times, refugees are not forgotten. Let's make this Christmas a season of true giving and compassion. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those who need it most. #RefugeeSupport #ChristmasSpirit #GlobalCommunity #UNHCR

📣 We’re proud to announce the publication of 𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐠𝐞𝐬, our annual report for 2023. Last year was marked by turmoil and crises. Dorcas responded by building bridges that brought hope and perspective to people and places off the beaten track. Through the power of partnership, we bridged gaps in equality and opportunity so that individuals could connect and participate and their communities flourish. 🤝 Dorcas also served as the bridge between our stakeholders and supporters and those in need. That bridge enabled us to respond immediately when Syria was hit by earthquakes, continue our support in Ukraine, and stand up for those whose needs are less visible, such as farmers in Tanzania and Mozambique. ✅ Furthermore, throughout 2023, we worked hard on the foundations needed to support strong bridges. For example, we were independently verified against the Core Humanitarian Standard for our humanitarian, development and advocacy mandates. Also, we continued key strategic partnerships, expanded our advocacy efforts, and continued activities to engage with our supporters. 🌱 Thanks to these solid foundations, we could support many individuals and communities cross the bridge to a flourishing life. For instance, in Albania and Moldova, community development projects enabled marginalised individuals to thrive, and in Lebanon, our projects improved the protection and resilience of displaced persons and their host communities. We restored water supplies and improved hygiene for communities in Iraq, and in South Sudan, we built dykes to protect land and people. 👉 Now we invite you to cross the bridge and experience the impact we achieved in 2023. Today marks the first anniversary of our #HomeEquals campaign! Over the past year, 45 policy or system changes have been successfully enacted at both local and national levels, and 3 million people living in informal settlements have gained improved access to adequate housing. In Macedonia, Habitat for Humanity Macedonia's efforts have aided in transforming urbanization and energy efficiency in marginalized areas like Kumanovo and Shuto Orizari. Through local advocacy, we unlocked USD $25,000 in government funding to support sustainable urbanization, land tenure security, and slum upgrading for over 20,000 people in a community with high levels of informality. Meanwhile, in Jordan, Habitat for Humanity Jordan is preparing to tackle the urgent challenges facing residents in Palestinian refugee camps, where the infrastructure is rapidly deteriorating. Collaborating closely with local partners and communities, we aim to enhance the safety and security of these homes, ensuring that every family can live in dignity and stability. Together, let’s keep pushing forward to ensure that everyone has a decent and dignified place to call home. 🏠

🌍💙 Dive into this impactful video where Yvonne Achieng Arunga, the Country Director for Save the Children Kenya & Madagascar, proudly unveils the positive impact of Save the Children Kenya & Madagascar and the USAID - Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance on families in Garissa! 🎥👏 #SavetheChildren #USAID 🚰 Solarized water points are transforming lives, like Hussein* and her 4 children in Bulla Hothan. No more risky walks to crocodile-infested rivers for water as the prolonged drought made this a necessity. Child protection matters! 🌞 Thanks to the solarised water points, families now access clean water closer to home. However, concerns on sustainability arise with plastic tanks lasting 7 years. 🤔 Community members also worry about the future and the $2 monthly contribution during drought hardships. To ensure long-term water access, we need more investments addressing durability and community contributions. 🫱🏾🫲🏽 Grateful for USAID - Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance, USAID, and the U.S. Embassy in Kenya's support. Let's unite for a sustainable future! Save the Children International Save the Children US

Chad has several regions: a desert zone in the north, an arid Sahelian belt in the centre and a more fertile Sudanian Savanna zone in the south. Lake Chad, after which the country is named, is the second-largest wetland in Africa.
