Public lands are a public good, but they are not being used for the public good. The City is selling, leasing, or redeveloping them without consulting the communities that use them. This can result in the loss of affordable nonprofit community space, and the increase of community demands. We need the City to implement three recommendations that will help address the space crisis. The third recommendation is to ensure a process for community consultations/community space needs before selling, leasing, or redeveloping publicly-owned lands. This includes creating an impact report on the expansion or loss of affordable nonprofit community space, and associated community demands. We need your help to make this happen. https://lnkd.in/eQXDZQUs #SpatialJusticeTO

Annual Fundraising for Park Foundations, Friends Groups, and Conservancies: Creating Impact: How Park Foundations Support and Serve Communities In this section, I want you to provide specific examples of how your park foundation has addressed and will continue to address problems and challenges, as well as meet the unmet needs of local residents by being a strategic partner to the public agency. This can include details about the programs offered, services provided for people in need, and how the Park Foundation assists the public lands and recreation agency. https://lnkd.in/gKPp3Mft There may be some overlap between the roles of the Parks Foundation and the Parks and Recreation Department, or the Public Lands and Recreation Agency. Just do your best to differentiate, and spend some time with me during virtual office hours so I can help you with this. #ParkFoundation #PublicAgencySupport #CommunityPrograms #RecreationServices #StrategicPartnership #PublicLands #CommunityNeeds #NonprofitSupport #LocalResidents #RecreationAgency #VirtualOfficeHours

HomeShare Oregon (HomeShare Oregon), one of OJCF’s six Impact Together nonprofits, matches renters and homeowners through an innovative homesharing model. By pairing homeseekers with just 2% of homeowners currently possessing spare bedrooms, we could provide affordable housing for 30,000 individuals. Moreover, this model offers a dual benefit, as 30,000 homeowners at risk of foreclosure could find stability, all without the need for additional infrastructure development. In 2023, we were excited to launch a new grant opportunity to our nonprofit partners, Action Grants! Action grants are small grants intended to pay for specific one-time expenses or materials or organizations/programs serving the Lake Tahoe Basin. These grants have been able to fund immediate needs such as paying for materials needed to retrofit an existing outdoor play area for rehabilitating bear cubs in order to meet new requirements recently set by the CA Department of Fish and Wildlife, as well as to purchase an Automated External Defibrillator to be located in a facility offering therapies to individuals with life-altering injuries in case of an on-site cardiac incident. A total of 6 organizations were awarded Action Grants in 2023, meeting a variety of immediate needs within those organizations. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and grants up to $2,500 are awarded quarterly by the Community Foundation’s Community Impact Committee. According to the Georgia Department of Community Affairs Housing Needs Assessment, household growth has outpaced housing growth since 2013. There is a huge shortage of affordable housing in Georgia, leading many lower-income families to rent. However, rents are also increasing with high demand, leaving low-income families in a precarious position. To keep costs low for the families we serve, Habitat for Humanity offers zero-interest mortgages. Combined with the generosity of sponsors, donors, and volunteers, we are able to help families make their dream of homeownership a reality. We can't do it alone. To partner with us in our mission to build strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter, consider donating today. https://lnkd.in/eqXTfini #affordablehousing #homeownership #americandream #habitatforhumanity #strongertogether #partnership
