As housing prices continue to soar across our area, too many local families are struggling to access decent, affordable homes and achieve homeownership. At Habitat for Humanity of Northern Saratoga, Warren, and Washington Counties, we are committed to building homes, communities, and hope for those who need it most—but we rely entirely on donors like you to fund our work. We receive no operational funding from government sources, which makes your support more critical than ever. Today, on World Habitat Day, we ask you to stand with us. Whether it’s $10, $100, or more, your donation today will go directly toward building homes for families who are priced out of our housing market. 💙 Every dollar helps us change lives by providing not just a house, but a foundation for a better future for generations to come. Donate now and make a tangible impact in our community: https://lnkd.in/gFkqDtx Together, we can create a world where everyone has a decent place to live. 5 for the Future: Building a Stronger Muscatine County! Did you know that over $331 million is expected to be transferred from Muscatine County estates in the next 10 years? Thanks to the new "5 for the Future" initiative by Iowa Community Foundations, a portion of those funds could be reinvested right here in our community! What is 5 for the Future? It's a program that encourages individuals to donate just 5% of their estates to their local community foundation. In Muscatine County's case, 5% of that $331 million translates to over $16.5 million! Planned legacy giving can help protect, grow, and spread resources that may otherwise lose roots. CRUTs can be a very attractive strategy for individuals seeking to support loved ones by protecting wealth (while offering them a steady stream of annual income) and fulfilling charitable goals. In this article, Kathleen Rehl shares her "Give It Twice" approach, how she strategically uses a T-CRUT funded with $1 million from her IRA, and create a 'pension' for her son via future gifts to the nonprofits she supports. https://bit.ly/48UQyp1

Experienced leader in Contech, conversation facilitator, and NIBS BIM Stakeholder Taskforce member. Former board member National Building Museum, DICE, and ABC I&D Committee member.
It all adds up. Whether that’s doing a massive project one phase at a time, building a company one job at a time, or getting healthier one choice at a time, eventually it all adds up. Same thing goes in the opposite direction. Like, needing to have that hard conversation but putting it off, wanting to slow down but still saying yes to everything, or wanting to ask for help but pushing through it alone, again. It all adds up. Construction is facing a labor shortage and growing mental health crisis. The two aren’t mutually exclusive. We need 501,000 more workers to fill jobs and meet capacity according to the Associated Builders and Contractors. At the same time, construction workers are four times more likely to end their own lives than people in the general population. This is unacceptable. Let’s be clear, there’s a lot we can’t control in this equation but what we can control, adds up. Educate yourself on learning the signs that someone is struggling, check in twice when you ask someone how they’re doing, and know where to direct someone when they’re brave enough to admit they need help. This is how we show up for each other, this is how we take action as individuals. This is how it all adds up! To create momentum, now through the end of the year Procore Technologies has committed to triple your donation to help raise funds for the mental health charities tackling this crisis in construction. Together, let’s make sure it all adds up for good! Learn more in the shared post from Get Construction Talking below. Less than a week has passed and we're staring at another storm approaching the very same region. One of the ways to ensure emergency response orgs are able to meet communities where they are, at a moment's notice, is to become a monthly donor. Yes, even $5 a month helps an organization have sustained impact. Whether you give to Feeding America or another organization of your choice, please always consider breaking down that larger one-time gift into smaller monthly installments. https://lnkd.in/gj_xX4eb For disaster-specific donations: https://lnkd.in/gzVBP9V3

What do we know abt the extent of the declines in giving & volunteering rates to nonprofits? About their consequences and causes? And what do we know about those declines in relation to other expressions of generosity, outside of formal charitable nonprofits? In a new "landscape analysis" just released by The Generosity Commission, I take these questions on. I don't think it's a spoiler to quote here from what i guess is the peroration: "This is a moment to get our bearings, to take stock of the landscape. We are aware that it is changing, even as we recognize its established landmarks. We intuit that some of the changes are likely permanent, while others are reversible. Some we acknowledge as the product of broader social transformations which seem beyond our immediate control, while others we know are the products of decisions we have made and attitudes we have developed that are within our power to change or to reinforce, if we mobilize to do so. We welcome some of the changes as salutary adaptations—to technological advances or to socioeconomic conditions—while we acknowledge that other changes will likely mean reduced charitable resources making their way to nonprofits across the country, with deleterious consequences for those they serve. So, we inhabit this shifting landscape of generosity with some apprehension at its transformed terrain, with resolve to cultivate it purposefully where we can, and with excitement about how it will continue to develop in the coming years. If this moment represents in any respect a crisis of generosity, then it is one that we can approach with resolve, and even with wonder, at the opportunities that lie ahead." The landscape analysis is a teaser in a sense for The Generosity Commission's final report, which will be coming out in September, taking these issues on, and more.
Today we are excited to release our in-depth analysis of the generosity ecosystem. "The Shifting Landscape of American Generosity" summarizes what we currently know about the decline in giving and volunteering rates and the reasons potentially contributing to this decline. As we delve into these trends, we also recognize the potential for reduced charitable resources for nonprofits, posing new challenges. Stay tuned for our full report in September, which offers recommendations to address the declines in giving and volunteering rates. https://lnkd.in/gPpy5S_K
