Join us for an artist reception for Rick Potestio at our Portland studio next Thursday, January 16th from 6-8pm. On view for two months, the exhibition titled “Any Given Day” showcases various plen air paintings by Rick. — Rick strives to capture the intricate interplay of light across the Pacific Northwest’s landscape, skillfully coaxing a rich spectrum of colors while defining form and space through subtle gradations of shade and shadow. He observes that the region’s natural beauty offers an overwhelming abundance of detail, making the challenge one of thoughtful selection and precise expression. Rick’s goal is to evoke the mood of the moment and convey an authentic sense of place, inviting viewers to connect deeply with the scene. Rick Potestio worked at the Hacker office during its formative years before launching his own award-winning architectural practice in the early 1990s. Renowned for his exquisite architectural drawings, deep passion for nature, and unwavering dedication to enhancing the quality of the built environment in our region, Rick is a highly influential figure within Portland’s design community. — #hackerarchitects #plenairpainting

✒ Bijoy Jain’s showcase “Le souffle de l’architecte” extended on the -1 level. No windows there, nor a particular quality of space, just big plain walls. A collection of smaller scale objects on display, flawlessly complementing the exhibits above. The light was dim, a static ambiance with a thoughtful scenography that featured every piece in an equivalent way, so that nothing would stand out, nor would anything pass unobserved. I lingered around a chair placed in a corner, drawn by its perfectly simple staging. I wove a whole narrative around it, for some reason, a Beckett play started unraveling: solitude, fragility, hope, longing. There, in the corner. It brought forth contemplation on our ability to control and play with artificial light, the invisible ingredient that we mostly underestimate in our quest for design virtuosity. Focused on perfect shapes and colors, we forget that light can do so much with so little. Only a subtle adjustment of intensity and, with it, a whole range of emotions. Space as a blank page, awaiting stories to be imprinted and then erased and rewritten, one after another. All in the hands of the storyteller. “Vladimir: Well, shall we go? Estragon: Yes, let's go. They do not move.“ 📖 Samuel Beckett – Waiting for Godot #thoughtsontap #expo #BijoyJain #lesouffledel’architecte #architecure #space #light #shadow #texture #materiality #SpatialStories #CreativeReflections Words & picture by Madalina Anghelescu

"The sketch is and remains for me “the point of departure” of the design, a first vague idea that has not yet been formulated. I see the sketch more as a kind of psychogram. While I am drawing, an image is created in my head, in my subconscious, a feeling of the space in question, and with my hand, I transfer this feeling directly onto the paper. At that moment, my hand is the seismograph." Wolf dPrix Various sketches by Wolf dPrix, 1966-2024 #coophimmelblau #wolfprix #architecturesketch #architecturedrawing

The Dream Machine - 6574 #AIArt Prompt: Create an abstract image that portrays a historical setting. This image should evoke feelings of romance and feature distinctive high contrast elements. You may include scenes such as old-world streets, bygone eras of architecture, or vintage clothing styles. The romantic aspect might be conveyed through pairs of shadowy figures, warm lighting, or timeless elements of love like handwritten letters and roses. Keep in mind to intricately blend these elements in a non-realistic composition, reflecting the abstract nature requested.

What makes art powerful? Its ability to transform not just spaces, but the way we experience them. ✨ We’re thrilled to share the unveiling of our new 1250-metre art trail project in Stratford in collaboration with Populo Living and Newham Council. Featuring two hand-painted 34-metre murals, 25 square metres of floor art, five interactive play pieces, colour-blocked planters and walls, AND over 1,300 boot prints! A vibrant, community-driven masterpiece that has redefined how we think about public art. This project isn’t just about what you see; it’s about what you feel and how you engage. From stunning walls to playful floor art, every detail was designed to spark curiosity and connection. One of the most exciting elements is the interactive floor art, with boot prints that guide you through the journey of the murals. Each step connects the dots between individual artworks, creating a cohesive story that invites participation and exploration. Seeing people of all ages engage with the pieces was an unforgettable highlight. It brought smiles, conversations, and a shared sense of pride, reminding us of art’s capacity to unite and uplift. ✨ This project has reinforced something we’ve learned time and again: public art thrives when it’s created with and for the community. The interactive features added a layer of engagement that made this mural uniquely exciting and deeply personal for those involved. What do you think makes a public art project memorable? We’d love to hear your thoughts! #CommunityArt #InteractiveDesign #Populo #ArtWithImpact #PublicArt #CoCreativeConnection #CommunityMural
