I used to believe that being a nurse sometimes means choosing a complicated path because of the serious challenges faced in the profession, such as hierarchy problems, doctor-nurse conflicts, patients viewing you negatively, and organizational bodies not being solely interested in your welfare, among others. However, I realized it’s not about the profession but about us; you and me as nurses or any health professionals. I remember my first day as a working nurse, being told, "Doctors do this, nurses don't do that," and many other things. The segregation was so pronounced that I even questioned what exactly we do. I strongly believe in team collaboration. I have worked with amazing doctors and other health professionals who tagged me as the VIP Nurse due to the kind treatment and pleasant working culture I fostered among my colleagues. It wasn’t just my actions but the way I communicated with them. The respect I commanded came from how I expressed myself and interacted with other professionals, making me appear resourceful. So, dear professionals, it’s not just about your boss or colleagues but about your actions and words. Dear #LinkedInFam, how do you express yourself at your place of work, either verbally or non-verbally? I would love to hear from you. #healthpromotion #communicationskills #nursesonlinkedin

I’ve also experienced the struggle of being seen negatively by patients. It’s tough, but building trust through kindness and professionalism always helps.

The division between doctors and nurses has always baffled me. We’re all here for the same goal- patient care.

I agree that communication is important Halimat Olubukola Jimoh However I still believe health organizations can do better regarding the segregation of nurses.
