🔜 After the Summer School is before the Summer School. We are still inspired by the great days in Strasbourg with 50 students and great partners such as Quantum Delta NL, the Universität Straßburg and EIN Quantum NRW. 🤔 But what makes the European Quantum School so special? Sohan Vartak from the organizing committee describes his expressions and reveals the plans for 2025. 👁 Curious? Then take a look! #quantumwithoutboarders #europeansummerschool #quantumtechnologies

You didn’t need to be a quantum physicist to understand that there is an acceleration across all industries in the ways to which quantum science, computing and mechanics will help solve complex problems faster. Similar to AI technology, how, why and when and at what costs is the unknown but it’s hard to overlook the need. Coming from someone who attending this event with zero knowledge of quantum, I couldn’t help but picturing Doc and Marty from Back To The Future and the flux compassitor! However, I left the event with my mind racing on the massive opportunities and what the future brings. This informative event hosted by QuantumCT and astute panel, broke down the future of quantum in business to a very understandable terms of the what, how, when and the WHY not Connecticut as a hub? Doc, break out the DeLorean!

No, I'm not celebrating World Quantum Day today (or yesterday.) I just feel that it is caving to the massive hype around quantum computing and glorifying what I call premature commercialization. I would celebrate it if it was focused 1,000% on research related to quantum effects and quantum mechanics. I calculate 1,000% as a nominal 100% focus and a 10X increase in funding above current research funding levels related to quantum effects - I would celebrate it if it was named World Quantum RESEARCH Day. I am also refraining from celebrating it because "quantum" is too vague and ambiguous, encompassing anything quantum-related, while my focus is 100% laser-focused on general-purpose quantum computing, which is in desperate need of much more research and research funding, but is already getting too much misguided attention on premature commercialization - nothing worth celebrating there. The big-tent wide umbrella of "quantum" or quantum technologies encompasses everything from quantum effects, quantum mechanics, quantum physics, quantum chemistry, quantum sensors, quantum metrology, quantum sensing, quantum communication, and quantum networking, to quantum information theory and quantum computing, and even post-quantum cryptography (better known as quantum-safe cryptography.) Some of those other areas of "quantum" or quantum technologies are actually commercially viable at least to a limited degree (especially quantum sensors), but I wouldn't want to automatically confer the status of commercially-viable on something just because it's under the "quantum" umbrella. Yes, we should have outreach for quantum computing, for PhDs, grad students, undergraduates, and even high school students, as well as government agencies and major corporations and technology firms, to encourage more people, especially young people, to take up an interest in quantum technologies, but it should all be very focused on research, NOT commercialization, at this stage. So, join me in celebrating... Highlights from the Quantum World Congress 2024💡 We’re wrapping up a week filled with quantum science and technology. The Office of Science and Innovation hosted a roundtable discussion with American and Swedish experts, as well as a reception at the Swedish Embassy, providing a forum for dignitaries as well as experts in the field to meet. During the Quantum World Congress, Tomas Andersson provided an insight into Vetenskapsrådet / Swedish Research Council’s work on a draft National Quantum Strategy for Sweden and Jon Wingborg from QSIP – Quantum Sweden Innovation Platform explained the Swedish quantum ecosystem to the international audience. Some key takeaways from the week include: 🌐The importance of international collaboration to share research infrastructure, co-develop talent and research fields, and grow the Swedish and global quantum ecosystems. 🚀The need to explore new avenues for funding and growth. ⚖️The need to stay informed about the latest regulations impacting the field of quantum. #IntheSpiritofNobel #Quantum #Innovation #DeepTech #QuantumWorldCongress #SwedishScienceInnovation

PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO THE NEW DATE: 25 April, 2024 at 2 pm With Tel Aviv University's Barak Hirshberg, we welcome a recognized expert in computational #quantumchemistry to our CASUS Distinguished Lecture Series. The Hirshberg lab develops computer #simulations for understanding the static and dynamic properties of quantum and classical condensed-phase systems, focusing on molecular materials. In Görlitz, Barak will talk about his work tackling two challenges of the standard algorithms used in molecular dynamics simulations: 1) the extension of simulations to longer timescales, allowing the description of phenomena such as #nucleation and #crystalgrowth, and 2) the inclusion of #quantumstatistics at a reasonable computational cost. Contact us and join the talk directly on-site – or make use of the videoconferencing offer. https://lnkd.in/eku-uU3F #complexsystems #computationalscience #bosonicPIMD #moleculardynamics #MDsimulations #goerlitz #cityofscience #LausitzZukunftForschung Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR)

In the current issue of Nature Physics (Nature Portfolio), I argue with my always-inspiring colleagues Eline de Jong and Mauritz Kop that the time has come to consider appropriate #guardrails to ensure quantum technology benefits humanity and the planet. With quantum development still in flux, we call upon the science community to define principles and practices for responsible quantum innovation. https://lnkd.in/ej7EuY4J The governance of quantum-based technologies is one of the core areas of inquiry at the Quantum Social Lab at TUM Think Tank, co-led by Fabienne Marco, in collaboration with the Stanford Center for Responsible Quantum Technology led by Mauritz. Up next is the 2nd Annual Stanford Responsible Quantum Technology Conference, where Constanze Albrecht and I will present initial findings from Thailand as part of our project "Building Global Capacity for Responsible Quantum Technologies." https://lnkd.in/ezYvfDMH #guardrails #quantum #responsibleinnovation cc: Technical University of Munich, Stanford University Hochschule für Politik München More on GUARDRAILS in our new book https://guardrails.design/, with Viktor Mayer-Schoenberger
