Does anyone have an answer? We enjoyed attending the Life Sciences Career Fair and discussing various career-related topics with the participants. One of the essential questions is: "Why is it so difficult to move from academia / science to industry?" Does anyone have an answer to this? What is the challenge for companies when hiring a scientist who wants to move from academia to industry? What should scientists consider when they want to move to industry? I would be very happy to hear your opinion and experiences. What's the companies’ point of view? I think you are experienced in this question. Why is it sometimes so difficult for scientists to move to industry? Hey Wolfpack! We hope your experience at the Engineering Career Fair was successful! Now that you have been in contact with recruiters from your favorite companies, it's important to follow up with them in order to keep expressing interest. Here are some tips for following up and securing interviews: - Keep it brief: Your follow up should not be a detailed summary of your work experience, but rather a chance to make yourself more memorable. Keep it short in order to keep the attention of the recruiter. - Be professional: Be sure to maintain that level of respect that the recruiter expects. It's important to maintain a professional image in the eyes of the recruiter. - Use the subject line: The subject line should include a mention of the career fair. Make sure that it is included so you draw the recruiter's attention! - Be genuine: Showing genuine interest in the company is often better than trying to fake it. Make the message personal and straight to the point to produce the biggest effect. We hope you all enjoyed the career fair and best wishes in the recruitment process!
