I joined Statsig later than I hoped, but I still saw its three-year journey. 2020 was important for me. I became a better data scientist -- effective, pragmatic, and ironically, "are right, a lot" -- one of Amazon's leadership principles that I found most puzzling. A big reason was building the conviction of the value of data through AB testing. After 6 years in PhD and 2 years at Amazon, I doubted if data really helped businesses. At Facebook, I learned it does. I used data to make key decisions and prove them with experiments. Such conviction is still paying dividends today. Facebook's AB testing tool was great, but I couldn't talk about it much. It was internal. When Vijaye R. started a company to make a similar tool, I interviewed him (https://lnkd.in/gGRqTjRg) and asked for a demo (https://lnkd.in/gnA_cjpy). Rewatching it today, you will find that the product has matured a LOT, but the technical insights and the mission remain the same. I believed in this business a lot, maybe more than most of the founding members. This tool needs to be built, and they're the right people for it. I wished them luck and continued my journey. Two years later, with all the learning and growth, I was back. It almost felt like gravity. Because Statsig is about the mission all along -- make data useful.
Three Years? Really? It feels just like yesterday, a few of us got together and started a company. In a blink of an eye, three years have flown by. Today, I feel proud for having built this incredible team - this team that has crafted amazing products, stood up a strong business, supported thousands of customers large and small, forged everlasting friendships, shared life milestones including welcoming Statsig babies, and more. I have shared this internally many times before: Statsig’s only moat is this team’s ability to out-execute competition. Here’s to many more accomplishments! Happy 3rd Anniversary, Statsig!!

Diverse Teams: The Secret Sauce to Success 🌟 Let's talk about the power of diversity in our teams. If the Avengers only had one type of superhero, they wouldn't stand a chance against Thanos, right? Just like the avengers, we all need a mix of talents and backgrounds if we want to succeed. 🤎 Mentoring and giving opportunities to folks who don't look like us or come from different walks of life isn't just a feel-good move—it's like assembling our own super squad! After ~five incredible years at Veriff, 2023 marked the end of an era for me. 🚀 I feel like I've been exceptionally lucky at being at the right place, at the right time.. I'll always remember before joining Veriff thinking that this would be a 6 months job, but from day one, I recognized what a huge opportunity there is at this place Growing from a small startup, all the way through a unicorn🦄 scale up, I owe a huge debt of gratitude to everyone who has been part of my journey, from the legends that taught me the ropes to the amazing teams I've had the pleasure of working with, each person has left an incredible mark on my career.. Thank you! To name a few of those legends: I'll start with Guy Zerega, from whom I learned how to sell a product on a fundamental level, and how to build a revenue engine that delivers consistent and predictable results. Duncan Steblyna, the wizard of simplifying complex problems in a way that I'm yet to see anyone else do. Margus Sütt, how to communicate with customers Indrek Heinloo, how to scale a business, and the countless thought-provoking chats. Caroline Mogford, for teaching me to aim perfection, and always pushing for 100% (and beyond!). And of course, big love to all the teams I've been lucky enough to be a part of – Verification Ops, Solutions/Sales/Revenue/Commercial (once in sales, always in sales!), and Marketing. As I step into the next chapter of my career, I carry with me the lessons, memories, and friendships from my time at Veriff. Thank you all for being a part of this wild ride! ❤️

This may be controversial…but it shouldn’t be. TechSlice, LLC had 12 holidays off, some paid community volunteer time, and a discretioanry company week shutdown to ‘reset’ on top of regular employee PTO last year. I’ve been told it’s a LOT of time for a startup. (Only in the US) Most of our work is deliverable/results based. This year, I added another week of employee PTO based off of feedback from the team. I’ve been criticized for the holidays we celebrate and have been told what I ‘should do’… I love feedback but, telling others what to do without taking the time to understand the ‘why’ behind people’s decisions comes off as patronizing. You think you’re the only one telling me how to run my company? You’re not. It’s also not your company and not my first rodeo. We’re not your average company. We never will be. We are a team of creatives and we work on crazy stuff. When were ‘on’ - we’re ‘on’. We perform. When we’re off, we’re off. That needs to be respected. There are benefits to creatives (and everyone) to have that space and time to ‘be bored’, to THINK, to create outside of ‘tasking’. Or just to be with others. Outside of that, when daycare is closed - we’re closed! When daycare and other institutions are closed, how to you expect parents and caretakers in general to be productive? Some family structures have support during those times and others don’t. That extra support isn’t guaranteed. I’m a big believer in family first. Take care of what you need to. Family time is family time and work time is work time. I’m a single mom running a company. I do my best to juggle and sometimes those worlds blend. I can’t do it all at once. Why would I expect my team to? Get real. Does that make me less effective? I’d argue it makes me hyper effective when I’m actually at work. My perspective and experience running two software agencies, a hybrid venture studio, and growing my company throughout COVID (with a young child) - has shown me the importance of a culture that respects time off and closing when childcare and various elder care institutions are closed. You may or may not get that but, you don’t have to. My team does. How we spend our time is our decision. Not yours. Period.
Happy Presidents Day! (We're Closed!) We're taking the day off to enjoy time with our family and friends. We hope you take the time recharge (and have fun)! We will see you bright and early on Tuesday! -From the TechSlice Team

Transitioning out of corporate life to a portfolio of work is an iterative process - prototyping, testing, tweaking, and repeating; moving ever closer to the 'solution'. This is how far I've got in five months: I started with research to understand how others approached it. The research included speaking to people who had made the move, reading more on the subject, experimentation diving into some areas, seeking feedback from stakeholders (family, mentors, coaches, network), unlearning corporate speak and behaviours and reconnecting with people. I used the idea of designing my life to identify my desired values - healthy, helpful, and happy that would guide my decision making. I continue to explore what those three words really mean to me. I'm now at the stage where I have a portfolio of activities with some clarity of how much time is allocated to each one. I've identified diverse types of compensation for the activities e.g. Volunteering does not compensate in cash. Mental health activities can be measured in attainment and behaviour. I'm still learning and iterating. I'm extremely glad that I joined Michele Evans at NxtWaves - It's given me some structure where I need it without the parts I didn't want. It's opened my mind to options and presented avenues I would not have explored alone. It's helping me find my 'tribe' as a friend described it.
