Melinda Gate's new philanthropic focus and how she is deploying $1billion dollars of capital confirms over and over again how little we still invest in women and most importantly girls., so much so that the world needs someone at the level of Melinda Gates, to use incredible wealth, to help the world shift for good. Talk about #impact, to use extensive #wealth with #intentionality, to align one's personal #values with how we use #currency, #capital, #money. To surround yourself with people, organizations and advisors that live and breathe their values too. Melinda is not alone in this task, many other people are working really hard to change how the world views the economic power that women already have, and how everyone at every level benefits when we invest in women and girls, and when women are present. Excerpt: ~ "It’s frustrating and shortsighted. Decades of research on #economics, #wellbeing and #governance make it clear that investing in #women and #girls benefits everyone. We know that economies with women’s full participation have more room to grow. That women’s political participation is associated with #decreased #corruption. That #peace agreements are more durable when women are involved in writing them. That reducing the time women spend in #poor #health could add as much as $1 trillion to the global economy by 2040 " ~ 5E Wealth #wealthwithintentionality #melindagates #wealthmanagement #womenandwealth #womenandmoney #neweconomy #impact #5ewealthlab

Yesterday was very exciting day for the Women in the Digital Economy Fund (WiDEF). At the WiDEF launch at #CSW68 there was a packed room and great discussion and the first call for applications was announced. Thanks to those who joined the event and discussion! This follows our announcement last week of our WiDEF Advisory Council members. I am very excited to be working with this amazing group of individuals who bring such rich and diverse experience and expertise. They are Osama Manzar, Shikoh Gitau and Dr Karen S. (who were able to join in person at the launch yesterday and shared great insights), Helani Galpaya, Aamir Ibrahim, Neema Iyer, Dorothy Okello, Araba Sey and Camilo Téllez. On #iwd2024 we shared our updated GSMA - Mobile for Development #ConnectedWomen numbers of the gender gap in mobile internet in low-and-middle income countries. Our data highlights that this gender gap is both stubborn and substantial. Women are 15% less likely than men to use mobile internet in LMICs - increasing to 32% in Sub-Saharan Africa and 31% in South Asia. But together we can make a difference and accelerate digital inclusion for women. The first call for applications aims to scale proven solutions that have demonstrated they: 1️⃣ Drive digital inclusion for women, e.g. through access to smartphones and the internet 2️⃣ Significantly close the gender digital divide in their context 3️⃣ Are economically sustainable and scalable 🌍 Eligible geographies are countries where USAID operates; at least 50% of award funding will support entities in SS Africa. Some key dates to note: 📆 March 26 & 27 – Information webinars 📆 March 31 – Deadline to submit written questions 📆 May 6 – Deadline for applications --- About the Women in the Digital Economy Fund: WiDEF is a joint effort between USAID and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to accelerate progress on closing the gender digital divide. Established as a consortium, it is managed by CARE, the Global Digital Inclusion Partnership and the GSMA Foundation. Grameen America, Inc. Announces Plan to Invest $40 Billion of Capital in Underserved Women Entrepreneurs by 2033: https://bit.ly/3WnVAaa. We're proud to support this incredible organization! "The initiative, named “Women Are Limitless: Accelerating Inclusive Growth and Impact,” aims to put in place over $1 billion in investment capital, with $300 million raised through philanthropy, $300 million secured in the form of debt capital, and the remainder will be generated internally from interest income and reinvested into the program and communities. This $1 billion in investment capital would position Grameen America to allocate $40 billion towards empowering entrepreneurial women, expanding its reach fourfold to positively impacting the lives of 750,000 women across under-resourced communities in the United States over the next 10 years." #IFI #IFIProfessionals #VirtualEmployer #BestRemoteEmployer #BestPlacesToWorkEmployer #GreatPlaceToWorkCertified #FortuneTop100SmallBusinessWorkplace #WereHiring #PhilanthropicCompany

The World Economic Forum estimates it will take 134 years to close the gender gap. 🤢 ... i.e. my daughters will not experience global parity in their lifetime. Haunted by this reality, I actively seek to support advocates of change and businesses empowering future generations of women. Last week, I invested in in Female Invest, a company closing the financial gender gap and improving female financial literacy. This company is already a big deal, and I'm not the only one who thinks so... ...because in just 4 minutes, they secured £906,283 from 1,827 community investors. I have been so impressed with the tenacity of the founding team since their incorporation in 2021, and am thrilled to be financially committed to their success. 👏 Bravo, Anna-Sophie Hartvigsen, Camilla Cloëtta Falkenberg, Emma Due Bitz, and the entire team. Special thanks to Seedrs for making community investment possible. ... #FemaleLeadership #InvestInWomen #FinancialLiteracy #WomenInFinance #EconomicEmpowerment #ClosingTheGap #EmpowerWomen #SupportFemaleFounders #ImpactInvesting #GenderParity #WomenInvestors

Girls just wanna have funds – and that means more than just financial resources. It’s about ensuring girls and women access to the tools they need to overcome gender-based inequalities. When women and girls gain financial independence, it goes beyond their own success. It means stronger communities, more resilient economies – and a greater ability to combat hunger. Yet, too many are still held back by systemic barriers that prevent them from accessing the resources they need. Our Faminism campaign shines a light on the untapped potential of women in the fight against global hunger. By providing girls and women the tools and support they need to thrive, we create lasting, sustainable change – transforming not just individual lives, but entire communities. 💡 Investing in girls means investing in the future! 🌍 Learn more about the transformative power of Faminism on faminism.org. I've been having a lot of great conversations regarding gender lens investing and who we are overlooking in our typical conversations about capital deployment to under-represented founders. I'm excited to dig into this more during the panel I'm hosting, 'Transformation 3: The Gender Spectrum - How Social Finance is Advancing Gender Equity Across Communities and Industries.' Join in on the discussion at the Social Finance Forum hosted by Future of Good. Register here: https://lnkd.in/gDYGkZfy
We are thrilled to announce the speakers for our concurrent session 'Transformation 3: The Gender Spectrum - How Social Finance is Advancing Gender Equity Across Communities and Industries.' Gender-lens investing is not new, but it has evolved. More than funding women-led ventures, gender-lens investing has become foundational to social finance policy, funding frameworks and implementation. The gender-lens investing workshop will host an in-depth exploration of recent developments, tensions, challenges and inspiring solutions. It will also offer a sense of the recent and anticipated growth in GLI, highlight what to expect in the next five years, and how to get involved in the gender-lens investing landscape. Speakers: Tynesha McHarris, Co-Founder, Black Feminist Fund Debbie Owusu-Akyeeah, Executive Director, Canadian Centre for Gender & Sexual Diversity (CCGSD) Lindsay Wallace, Senior Vice President, Strategy, Communications and Impact, MEDA (Mennonite Economic Development Associates) Moderated by Allison Gibson, Chief Program Officer, Spring Hosted online.
