Round corner packaging by Carlsberg Group can save 224 tonnes of CO2 emissions 🎉 Exciting news for those in the sustainability and packaging science fields! Carlsberg Poland has partnered with DS Smith to introduce the DS Smith Round Wrap, a pioneering multi-pack solution that boasts significant environmental and design benefits. This innovative design uses rounded corners, a seemingly small change with a big impact. By replacing traditional square corners, the Round Wrap reduces the need for shrink film on pallets, leading to a projected 224 tonnes of CO2 emission reduction annually for Carlsberg in Poland alone. That's a substantial environmental win! ♻️ But the benefits don't stop there. The Round Wrap is also: 1️⃣ Fully recyclable, aligning with the growing demand for sustainable packaging solutions. 2️⃣ A branding and design powerhouse. The curved corners offer a unique canvas for 360-degree brand identity and illustrations, making your product stand out on the shelf. 3️⃣ Consumer-approved! A Toluna survey showed a whopping 77% of respondents preferred the Round Wrap's "enhanced wraparound design." This collaboration between Carlsberg and DS Smith exemplifies the perfect marriage of science and sustainability. The Round Wrap, developed using DS Smith's Circular Design Metrics, optimizes durability, supply chain efficiency, and brand impact. #packaging #sustainability #innovation #Innovationforall #carlsberg #dssmith #circulareconomy #FoodTech #FoodTechnology

Trial of sustainable rounded-corner multipack reduces carbon footprint Carlsberg Group Poland is testing a new Round Wrap packaging design for its beer ranges, including Carlsberg, Garage, and Somersby, aiming to enhance sustainability and efficiency. This packaging, developed by DS Smith using Arcwise technology, features rounded corners, which reduce the need for shrink film on pallets and are designed to maintain their integrity during transport. The Round Wrap is expected to decrease CO2 emissions by 224 tons annually in the Poland market compared to traditional corrugated multipacks. Additionally, the packaging includes a perforated top panel that simplifies access to the contents and doubles as a container for holding empty cans or bottles for recycling. The unique rounded shape not only protects the product but also offers enhanced 360-degree branding opportunities, potentially increasing consumer appeal. This move is part of Carlsberg Poland’s broader strategy to minimize environmental impact, supported by DS Smith’s Circular Design Metrics which assess the sustainability performance of the packaging. This trial represents an important step in Carlsberg’s ongoing efforts to innovate in packaging while reducing its carbon footprint. We’re excited to kick off our new blog series in partnership with Lebensmittel Zeitung, where we’ll dive deep into the packaging nuances of various market categories. Our first Topic? The vibrant world of fruit juice packaging! Click the link to read the complete article and find out how your favorite juice stacks up against the competition! 🔗 https://lnkd.in/dNcpjavw In our latest comparison, we explored the packaging of brands like Albi, Amecke, Bauer, Ernteglück, Granini, Hohes C, Innocent, and Pfanner across three key dimensions: Performance, Sustainability, and Design. 📊 Each brand brought something unique to the table, but only a few could take the top spots: Performance Winner: Pfanner impresses with a robust composite carton design, ensuring product safety and longevity. 🏆 Sustainability Winner: Granini leads with its eco-friendly PET bottle, optimized for material use and recyclability. 🌱 Design Winner: Innocent captures attention with its standout design, enhancing brand recognition and appeal. ✨ Conclusion of our CEO Christoph Waldau “The composite cartonboard bottle used for Pfanner impresses with its very strong performance characteristics, but shows weaknesses in the design and sustainability assessment dimensions, so that it falls significantly in the overall assessment. We categorised Granini’s PET bottle as the most sustainable packaging in the study. The use of mono-material, the relatively low overall weight, the very good recyclability and the communication on recycling play a major role here. The Innocent bottle was the winner of all the packaging analysed because it impressed in each of the three areas – performance, sustainability and design. The high score in the design assessment dimension is particularly noteworthy here.” innocent drinks Eckes-Granini Hermann Pfanner Getränke GmbH #SustainablePackaging #PackagingInnovation #RetailPackaging #JuicePackaging #BrandDesign #RecyclableMaterials #PackagingTrends

Saica Flex: Committed to #sustainability from the outset Flexible packaging has always stood out as a versatile solution, offering many benefits to brands, retailers and consumers alike. Packaging solutions designed with sustainability in mind have become the top priority in a world increasingly conscious of environmental concerns. Flexible packaging is making significant strides in this area thanks to its minimalist design, but admittedly, more can be done. When it comes to potential routes for aligning flexible packaging even more closely with the circular economy, innovation and re-design are happening everywhere you look. But even more so at the UK's flagship packaging exhibition, Packaging Innovations & Empack. Every exhibitor arrives with a message and according to Miguel Angel Dora, General Manager of Saica Flex, his message could be distilled into one word – sustainability. "Without doubt, the key message is sustainability," he said. "And when that comes from Saica, https://lnkd.in/eetN3sr5

The packaging industry is fully involved in the circular economy. This was confirmed at Hispack, Spain’s leading packaging trade fair, which closed last week at Fira de Barcelona’s Gran Via venue with more than 26,000 attendees, 11% of them international. Sustainability has been the main protagonist in the innovations presented and in the activities of an edition that has helped manufacturers and brands from different industries to adapt packaging and its associated production and logistics processes to the new regulatory framework. #sustainablepackaging #recyclability #packaging #sustainability #circulareconomy #recycledmaterials #resourceefficiency

#Webinar In early December, ALL4PACK EMBALLAGE PARIS hosted a webinar on the alignment of new international standards with local consumer expectations in packaging. 💡 Soha Atallah, Vice President of the WPO World Packaging Organisation Organisation, identified six key factors driving mutations in the packaging industry: ▪️ political and economic landscapes ▪️ growing societal considerations ▪️ technological advancements ▪️ environmental concerns ▪️ stricter legal regulations ▪️ the need for transparent communication regarding social and environmental commitments. 👉 Then, Sylvia VITALE ROTTA, Founder & CEO of Team Créatif Group and President of epda (european brand & packaging design association), highlighted the essential paradox of packaging —criticized yet indispensable. Consumers increasingly prefer sustainable packaging, willing to abandon non-committed brands. Examples like Bonduelle, Badoit, Actimel, and Pepsico illustrate how companies can make their packaging more sustainable while meeting consumer expectations. Mutations in the packaging sector pose challenges but also offer a competitive advantage for adaptable companies. 🚀 The ALL4PACK EMBALLAGE PARIS exhibition will continue to showcase virtuous companies in 2024, emphasizing the importance of aligning with new international standards and meeting the expectations of local consumers. #ALL4PACK #packaginginnovation #consumer #sustainability

Decarbonising UK Logistics | Fleet Wise Trusted Expert 2024 | Save energy, costs, & reduce emissions | Focus Net Zero Founder | Seasoned Interim Project & Programme Director
Baileys is trialling aluminium bottles replacing glass. Why? Well the glass bottle is 454g whereas the new ones weigh 85g. That means a pallet of Baileys would be 318kg lighter in the new format than the old. So a trailer full saves a whopping 7 tonne that the lorry no longer has to move, which all helps reduce fuel use and carbon emissions. There are a lot of decarbonisation savings to be had if businesses had a rethink on their packaging. But it isn't just weight, reducing packaging size is another opportunity; more products per carton is less vehicle movements. Not only is all this good for the environment, but it is also good for the finances as well. Of course though, there needs to be a balance, and the packaging has to be attractive enough to maintain the revenue of the previous packaging (at the least). Let's hope the trial is a success and we start to see others follow this lead. #netzero #businesstransformation #projectmanagement #programmemanagement #electricvehicles #logistics #thoughtleadership #strategy #decarbonisation #sustainability #ceo #coo #cfo https://lnkd.in/eqceEvF4
