We're so proud and excited for the St. Edward's Parish as we continue to work to make their new parish church a reality. It will be the first purpose-built FSSP church in U.S. and continues a great tradition, both architecturally and liturgically. https://lnkd.in/gz6ChCqw

For the People of Michigan Designated a National Historic Landmark in 1992, the Michigan State Capitol is one of the first state capitols to be topped with a lofty, cast-iron dome. Inside, the magnificent rotunda and nine acres of decorative fine arts give homage to Civil War Veterans. Currently undergoing conservation, the rotunda requires detailed cleaning to ensure longevity in preserving history. “We have a mantra we use on our staff called “we don’t settle for good enough, we want to go from good to great.” So that great bar is where our standard is, so now it’s our goal as stewards to make sure that we work, clean, and maintain this building to that level,” said Executive Director Robert Blackshaw of the Michigan State Capitol. John Canning & Co., experts in preservation, are working alongside additional conservation professionals on this project, making their work seamless from one to another, making the work look like it has been done by one hand. David Riccio, Principal of John Canning & Co., said, “when I look around the rotunda, I see a tour de force of decoration and craftsmanship. It’s monumental and worthy of the People of Michigan”. Much like things of greatness often do, this monumental project will continue to Summer of 2024 as the preservation, conservation, and restoration professional team collaborates with Michigan State Capitol executives throughout the process. Glad to see a focus on architecture serving spiritual needs for change. All of these listed are interesting examples of architecture departing from traditional forms religious architecture. I know these are award winners and that is great. But those interested in religious expression in architecture should also check out the several Baha’i Houses of Worship being constructed around the world. They are physical expressions of a new world religion.

Cathedral Building - in real (and metaphorical terms) What were you doing in 1986? I was singing (and crying - but another story) my little heart out as a chorister in a Yorkshire cathedral as a 10-year old. Alot of my life experiences were formed in those majestic spaces - as a result, imagination, awe and appreciation of beauty are concepts that I feel strongly aligned to. As I turned on the news last night, there was a piece on the completion of refurbishment of the exterior of Salisbury Cathedral - the project was started in 1986 with the final bits of scaffolding only due to come down this autumn....36 years of continuous effort to maintain a building which has stood for over 800 years - funnily enough, the cathedral took 38 years to build in the 1200's so imagine the amount of work and effort it took to build such an imposing and awesome space. An en vogue concept of "cathedral building" is present in the public leadership and strategic narrative - the thinking that like the master builders of great cathedrals who were pursuing an enduring vision that would require work and effort that would extend beyond their lifetimes to complete, can also be transferred to today. In these modern times of real, conceptual and existential emergencies, we require master builders who can think and act as stewards for future generations knowing (or consoling?) that our actions and decisions we make are laying the foundations to something which can be nurtured and built on by future generations to a hopeful future.

The art of architecture has been a significant part of human history since the very beginning of time. It has been a reflection of the cultural, social, and economic values of a society. Over the years, architects have used their creativity and technical skills to create some of the most incredible structures that have left people in awe. These remarkable feats in architecture have stood the test of time and continue to inspire future generations. From the ancient pyramids of Egypt to the towering skyscrapers of modern cities, architecture has evolved in unimaginable ways. These magnificent structures have been built using a variety of materials, including stone, brick, concrete, steel, and glass. The precision and attention to detail required to create these structures are nothing short of remarkable. One of the most remarkable feats in architecture is the Great Wall of China. This incredible structure spans over 13,000 miles and is the longest wall in the world. It was built over several centuries and has stood the test of time, with some sections still intact after over 2,000 years. The Great Wall of China is a testament to the ingenuity and perseverance of the ancient Chinese people. Another impressive feat in architecture is the Taj Mahal. This iconic mausoleum was built in the 17th century in Agra, India, by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife. The Taj Mahal is a masterpiece of Islamic architecture, with its intricate carvings, stunning marble work, and beautiful gardens. It is considered one of the most beautiful buildings in the world and attracts millions of visitors every year. In conclusion, these amazing feats in architecture are a testament to the creativity, ingenuity, and technical skills of architects throughout history. From the ancient wonders to modern marvels, these structures continue to inspire and captivate people from all over the world. They are a testament to the power of human imagination and the limitless possibilities of architecture. . . . . . . . . . . #architecture #design #article #amazing #tallest #buildings #monumental #feats #inspire #architects #towers #archdaily #wednesday #read #construction

Church signs come in a variety of styles: lighted and unlighted, brick or stone monuments, pole signs, lighted crosses or letters on the building. No matter the design, these signs are vital to a church’s image and connecting a congregation to its community. “[A church sign] is a ministry in itself,” said Danny Williams, president of Reliable Sign Services. “Many churches do not realize that, and their signs may be old and yellowed and not kept up or functionable. [Those] are a bad first impression.” Check out more in this article: https://lnkd.in/gFJh7_Jv #churchsigns #reliablesignsal #shoplocal #smallbusiness
