In John Hattie's Visible Learning, cognitive complexity refers to the depth and intricacy of mental processes involved in learning tasks. Cognitive task analysis, on the other hand, involves breaking down complex learning tasks into their component parts to understand the cognitive processes required to complete them successfully. By analyzing the cognitive demands of tasks, educators can design instructional strategies that effectively support students in mastering challenging content and developing higher-order thinking skills. This influence has an effect size of 1.09 (0.4 is one year of growth). #CESA3 #empoweringeducators #lead

I'm excited to announce that I've successfully produced my first course using Articulate Rise 360! While I recognize that this is only a small step in becoming the instructional designer I know I'm called to be, this is a giant leap in my career, as this was a massive pivot away from the LMS programs designed for K12 environments and towards the types of course authoring software that are so widely used outside of the public school system. Here's the course, if you wanted to try it! Yes, it's a remedial algebra course; I had to go with what I already knew. 😉 https://lnkd.in/e5mbaqP4 I'm also looking for honest feedback. L&D/LXD experts, IDs, corporate trainers, corporate learners, or just anyone who hated sitting through math class, what do you think? How should I improve this course? Are there significant aspects to Rise 360 that I'm missing but that could benefit this type of design? Let me know!

This is insightful and much needed. The article highlights important aspects. After reading this article I was reflecting on how, I could create some sample activities for MYP Maths and Science. , I wanted to use this for differentiation in the classroom. I realized that my first step would be to share with students what I want them to learn, "the skills and understanding" I would have to move away from designing of tasks, as that can be co-designed with students. 📝📚 Student agency would mean, we sit and work on this aspect of learning, "how can I show you, what I have learned?" I won't need a set of 20 questions on manipulation or simplification to know if they have understood a skill. If they create a presentation and walk me through, how in different scenarios they simplified and when they would need a change in their approach and when would the method of simplification not work and why... I have #evidenceoflearning and I could really support the students as they explore this 💡💡💡🎊

The revised #UDL Guidelines place an emphasis on cultivating learner agency, and Jigsaw activities are a powerful tool to achieve this. A jigsaw activity offers the opportunity to chunk instruction into four parts (think four sections in a chapter, four chapters in a text, four math problems, four vocabulary words, four steps in a process, or four stretches to learn in a physical education class). Instead of us, as educators, choosing how students are going to learn and share, we allow our students to decide how they will learn the materials and share they're learning with their peers (freeing up the opportunity for us to walk the room and spend more time working with our students). Through this activity, we are really optimizing the design of: - multiple means of engagement - multiple means of representation - multiple means of action and expression Gain more strategies for cultivating learner agency and save a copy of the resource: https://lnkd.in/ei_qmawW

🌟 Enhancing Lesson Planning with Bloom's Taxonomy 🌟 As educators, our goal is to foster meaningful learning experiences that promote critical thinking and deeper understanding. Bloom’s Taxonomy provides a powerful framework to structure lesson objectives, activities, and assessments across six levels of cognitive learning: Remembering, Understanding, Applying, Analyzing, Evaluating, and Creating. 💡 Using these verbs in lesson objectives ensures clarity and aligns activities with desired learning outcomes. Here are some examples of action verbs aligned with each level: 🔹 Remembering: Define, List, Identify, Recall, Recognize 🔹 Understanding: Explain, Describe, Summarize, Interpret, Classify 🔹 Applying: Solve, Use, Demonstrate, Implement, Operate 🔹 Analyzing: Compare, Contrast, Differentiate, Organize, Investigate 🔹 Evaluating: Judge, Critique, Defend, Support, Recommend 🔹 Creating: Design, Construct, Compose, Invent, Develop How have you used Bloom’s Taxonomy in your teaching or training sessions? 🚀 Share your experiences below! 👇 #Education #BloomsTaxonomy #LessonPlanning #Teaching #LifelongLearning
