We were thrilled to host Girls Inc of Metro Denver at our corporate headquarters for a field trip to learn more about construction. Led by our Lean In group, each department created activities to showcase their day-to-day work for the girls to rotate through and ask questions. It was a blast to highlight how rewarding careers in construction can be! #HaseldenConstruction #constructionindustry #construction #womeninconstruction #womenempoweringwomen

What's the answer to the lack of workforce in new construction? Construction has been faced with a dwindling workforce as older workers retire, and parents across the US have convinced their kids that a white collar job equals success. As kids who are strapped with staggering college debt will attest, maybe it's not worth it. One group in Minneapolis that is tackling the answer is Lake St Works. Lake Street Works is a 12-month after-school workforce development program for 12th grade men & women of color from the lowest income communities of Minneapolis. We prepare students for: 1. Full-time employment with one of our many construction industry partners. 2. Paid pre-apprenticeship enrollment. 3. Post-secondary education, technical training, & certification. Jess Coykendall, Program director explains in this video what Lake St Works is about, and how they can change both lives and the industry. #LakeStreetWorks #Urbanventures #Workforce #GenZworkforce

PUSHING THE ENVELOPE I would like to pile on the congratulations to the project team, but with a Building Science twist: Not only did they receive the 2024 MCA Choice Award, they also achieved a Whole Building Air Tightness test result of 0.015CFM50/SF!!! For a point of reference, the Phuis airtightness requirement is 0.060 CFM50/SF. - 285,000 square feet building footprint - 423,000 square feet exterior enclosure surface area If you want the equivalent value at 75pascals, the power law conversion would be 0.019CFM75/SF. If you’re stuck in your ways and want to turn this into a less sensible metric, the average building height of 34 feet would give you 0.04ACH50 Multipoint table and chart in the comments below. Congratulations to #RockRidgeHighSchool, winner of the 2024 Choice Award presented by Minnesota Construction Association! We are so proud to be part of the team that realized this outstanding project. #KABuilds #Schools #awardsofexcellence

Director at Matt Messias Impact Leadership Ltd; LeadershipCoach; Mental Health First Aid Instructor (MHFA England)
The work we’re doing is so important for young people- to give them confidence that they can succeed in a challenging, complex, and competitive world. Loving this #collaboration #partnership #growthmindset
Founder and Chief Executive at Class Of Your Own Limited (COYO) President, Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors 2024 Social Entrepreneur and Built Environment Education Evangelist
There will be many young people having a good lie in this morning, breathing a huge sigh of relief now that they have their exam results. Today is the first day of a new life that for many, will be defined by the grades they received. Some will have their next move already figured out, many won’t. Some will ask for help, some won’t know who to turn to. Some won’t even realise they need it. Working with teachers and students for the last 20 years (and indeed reflecting on my own experiences at school) has taught me that the development of future-focused skills, emotional intelligence and resilience is essential in preparing children and young people for the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century construction industry. So, it’s been great to work with the excellent Matt Messias over the past few months to help realise our ‘Resilient Future Construction Leaders” programme of Continuous Professional Development; that promotes a high-performance culture for our students - the ‘future’ of construction. Matt and I really enjoyed catching up with Dan Heffernan from AtkinsRéalis yesterday, to update him on our progress. When I put out my own call for help, Dan was there straight away to back our plan, and no surprise - where young people and opportunities are concerned, he shares my determination! Matt has now met with nearly all our pilot schools and feedback has been excellent so far - thank you to teachers and students at Sir George Monoux College, Stratford upon Avon School, King Ecgbert School, Cronton Sixth Form College, Alder Grange School, Hautlieu School, Highlands College, Jersey for sharing their thoughts - and also at Balwearie High and Southmoor Academy, where visits are planned next month. Thanks to my two giants of social impact, we’re well on track to develop the next phase of our programme for #DEC schools everywhere, supporting the well-being and professional development of our students - and everyone connected to them. #equity #education #wellbeing #skills #behaviour #confidence #resilience #socialimpact #REALvalue #children #future

CRE Close-Up: How a Historic Property Became a 1.8M-Square-Foot 'Urban Village'
Most developers build up, but at its City Ridge project in Washington, D.C., Roadside Development dug down to unlock extra density and fit the city’s first Wegmans underneath a historic office property. Our exclusive video series gives you a behind-the-scenes look at how the team lowered the foundation of the 112,000-square-foot building and transformed a 10-acre site into an “urban village.” 🔗 https://bit.ly/3TaM4oY Roadside Development LLC | Shalom Baranes Associates | City Ridge DC

Mega projects aren't the sole opportunities that will drive a fairer construction sector in WNY. We need education, training, advocacy/legislation, and *connections.* Only then will we be prepared to compete against the established firms for increasingly complex contracts. Joe at The Construction Exchange of Buffalo & WNY is spot on. Keep fighting for inclusion at all levels because it's the right thing to do. But if you ain't ready to take that work, then we need to identify and invite you to positions where you can safely continue to grow. It's dog eat dog out here and I hate to see people fail because they can't pass up on what seems like their big break. Buffalo State Small Business Development Center, April N.M. Baskin's Level up Initiative, Workforce Buffalo, Northland Workforce Training Center, Erie Community College, WNYLC and LISC NY are all resources I've personally used to ready my firm Draghi Burgos Construction to earn contracts working for or at Empire State Development, Highmark Stadium, Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus, Inc., Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, City of Buffalo, New York, People Inc. and many more. Today things aren't perfect, but it's better than yesterday. Tomorrow let's try again.
Another Voice: It will take a collaborative effort to increase minority-owned construction companies

Leading a construction business is like riding a wild wave - exhilarating yet challenging. From navigating highs and lows to constant planning and decision-making, the challenges are endless. It's a test of resilience every single day. But amidst all the challenges, there's a silver lining: the power to curate my team and choose my clients and projects. Hand-picking individuals who share my vision and passion not only makes the work more enjoyable but also ensures that we pour our hearts into every project. It's not just about building structures; it's about building relationships and creating something meaningful together. #SmallBusinessJourney #ConstructionManagement
Choosing the right client in the construction industry is paramount, and we couldn't be more aligned with our latest partner, the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Working together allows us to not only uphold our company values but also contribute to creating meaningful community spaces. It's more than just construction; it's about making a positive impact where it matters most. Proud to be part of initiatives that shape better futures!
