Meet the man who wants to shake up society and find new ways of working in a green economy. Indy Johar, #architect and co-founder of Architecture 00 and Dark Matter Labs will give the 2024 #London Society Banister Fletcher Lecture. Indy will examine the future of the capital and the huge changes it is going to have to deal with. He believes that we all need to embrace the harsh realities of the structural transformations the city will undergo. London in the 21st century will have to tackle the scale of the carbon challenge and what that means for new models of building. How are we going to deal with the necessary increases in #biodiversity, energy transitions, material scarcity and new forms of human development? #sustainablecityawards Dark Matter Labs RIBA ARCHITECTURE 00 Wednesday, 24 April 2024 6:30 pm - 8:15 pm £12-£12 RIBA, 66 Portland Place, W1B 1AD https://buff.ly/3OEKSY4

Architectural Designer MArch Texas A&M University | Studio for Environment and Architecture | ADND | DESIGNCORE | BMSCA
GESAMTKUNSTWERK:-Transforming the Abandoned The aim of the project is to transform an abandoned building into an articulated architectural statement. In this project, I've envisioned an art therapy center that seamlessly blends chaos and calm within its architectural design. It begins with a reimagining of the existing building's hierarchy, utilizing it as the canvas for creative reinterpretation. A fundamental aspect of the design philosophy includes the integration of fluid, organic forms.

Architectural Dissent: Unveiling Narratives at the Cenotaph In responding to the situation involving Charlie Gilmour and his actions at the Cenotaph in Whitehall, it's important to recognize the intersection of symbolism, architecture, and societal unrest. Gilmour's actions, although controversial and widely criticized, can be viewed as a poignant reaction to the established order and the symbolism associated with war memorials. Architecture, particularly monuments like the Cenotaph, holds immense power in shaping societal narratives and collective memory. The dichotomy presented by Edwin Lutyens' design, with its emphasis on geometric truth, and the disruptive act by Gilmour, challenges the established norms and forces us to question the nature of our collective crisis. The mention of "Darth ideologues" and its anagram "The Glorious Dead" adds another layer to this narrative. The Star Wars reference, a cultural phenomenon with its own set of symbols and ideologies, is invoked to highlight the disillusionment and desire for a future that transcends the current constraints. Architecture, as a form of expression and social commentary, has the ability to guide discussions on peace, remembrance, and societal values. Gilmour's act, though unconventional, prompts us to reconsider the sanctimonious nature of certain ceremonies and monuments. It serves as a reminder that architecture can be a dynamic force in reflecting the evolving consciousness of society. While the act may be seen by some as outrageous, it is essential to engage with the underlying message – a call for a critical re-evaluation of our societal structures, especially those associated with war and remembrance. In this sense, architecture becomes a platform for dialogue and reflection, pushing us to confront uncomfortable truths and envision a future beyond traditional paradigms. #ArchitecturalDissent #CenotaphControversy #YouthfulReaction #beyondceremony #pinkfloyd

Fractional Storyteller, helping Executives, Founders & Entrepreneurs with important sh*t to say, but not much time to say it
When a leader celebrates his people, even as they leave the organization, it... - Reinforces a company culture where employees feel appreciated - Builds the company's employer brand, because if they treat people so well when they're leaving, imagine how they treat the people who don't - Raises employees' standards, so that when they look for new jobs, they look for employers who treat their people well - Serves notice to other employers about how people should be treated, raising the bar - Gets attention for the company, because so few leaders/companies do this Incidentally, I'd love to feature CEOs other than Jason McCann, but he's featuring prominently in my LinkedIn feed these days. If you know of any executives, founders or entrepreneurs who set a similar example, please let me know!
Good Luck, Cristen Richard!! While we will miss having her as a key member of our Workspace Design Team, we're so excited for Cristen's next chapter. Contextual design is often misunderstood. Many think it means replicating existing buildings to blend in with the surroundings, but that often results in "cookie-cutter" structures that lack character and fail to meet a neighborhood's evolving needs. In our latest blog, we explore what true contextual design really means—and what it doesn't. 09022024 On Eloquent Ideas for September 2, 2024, we continue our discussion of African American Architecture with a look at ‘The Equity of Site Selection.’ Are all the good spots gone? Who got them? What does this mean for design? Later in the show, we will look at Another word from Voices of the Heart. This time the word is Evil, but we aren’t. Are you? Eloquent Ideas is a show about seeing more in the world around us. Listen at 1:00 EST every Monday on [https://lnkd.in/eZiuEUU7) [https://lnkd.in/e-VqKpWc) and Apple Music WDRBmedia Shown below are apartment blocks under construction in Philadelphia in July of 2022. If the good spots were already taken, what was sacrificed to build these? Is this solution worth the loss? Is this creative? It is surely efficient, but is that all we want from urban Architecture?

Check out this progress picture of Gray’s restored University of Kentucky College of Design building. Look at those stairs!
I'm incredibly excited about the University of Kentucky College of Design's new chapter in the Gray Design Building at the University of Kentucky. This is a landmark project for our campus and community, leveraging historic preservation to enhance contemporary Design education. Thanks to generous support from Gray and the work of Studio Gang, K. Norman Berry Associates Architects PLLC, John Carman Carman Landscape Architecture, CMTA, Inc. and Turner Construction Company we're transforming a century-old tobacco warehouse into a vibrant learning environment. This move not only signals our growth but our commitment to innovative, cross-disciplinary learning in a beautifully adaptive space. Here's to new beginnings in a building that embodies our future. #GrayDesignBuilding
