Update: Convoy Of Hope is working on mobilizing more semi trucks of relief supplies to Carolinas. Below is a breakdown of how every donation at any level helps bring relief and hope. You may have seen my post yesterday about the damage Easterseals Florida sustained - theirs was not our only Affiliate impacted. The recent devastation from hurricanes has severely impacted our Easterseals Affiliates in North Carolina, Georgia and Florida. Our teams are working hard to support affected families and employees, but they urgently need help. Some Easterseals Affiliates sustained significant damage, and many of our employees are facing home damage, requiring immediate access to clean water, food, and essential supplies. While volunteers, program participants, their families and friends are working hard to restore services and programs as quickly as possible and to rapidly rebuild damaged structures, they need our help. MATCHING DONATION CAMPAIGN FOR HEAT RELIEF ‼️ It is a critical time to address the impact of high heat on individuals, families and communities across the state, particularly for those struggling financially to address and adapt to the record-breaking temperatures. Wildfire is here to help. Governor Hobbs' order also directed state agencies to develop a comprehensive heat plan by March 2024 and advocate for more federal Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) funding. As a community action agency that connects low-income households with resources, Wildfire will do everything we can to support Governor Hobbs bringing more LIHEAP money into the state. "The program was initially designed to help cold-weather communities keep residents heated in the winter, but it has evolved to become an important resource for air conditioning assistance in hot summers, said Wildfire Executive Director, Kelly McGowan. Wildfire will match community donations up to $500,000 in donations to repair and replace HVAC units for qualifying low-income individuals at no cost to them -- bringing the total raise to $1,000,000. The more we are able to raise in donations, the greater the impact we can make. We’ve been getting a lot of questions on ways to help Western North Carolina recover from the devastation of Hurricane Helene. We encourage everyone to give to reputable organizations and donate to community supply drives sponsored by your local county governments or local charitable organizations. As many roads are still impassable in Western NC, do not collect supplies to drive to this area. Utilize established organizations that can help get these supplies to the people that need help. In times of disaster, there are many scams that try to use an individual’s strong desire to help to get them to donate to fraudulent charities. Be sure that the organization you choose to give to is one that is trusted.
