ICYMI: Cheehoo! Competing against 8,000 students across the country, our haumana from Honokaʻa High took home gold in the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America competition. Recent graduates, Kamahaʻo and Caleb were charged with creating a cool snack for kids in the food innovations category. Inspired by their love of fishing and poke, the pair envisioned a new type of trail mix - a Hawaiian Trail Mix which combines the flavor of poke with dried aku. Congratulations, Boys! This deserves another cheehoo! Click link in to view full story on KITV4 Island News: https://lnkd.in/g4vvbBJc

As I look back on the journey that led to my abstract being selected for the Undergraduate Research Competition at IFT FIRST in Chicago, I'm filled with a mix of emotions - gratitude and a tinge of disappointment. Immense gratitude for being given the opportunity to showcase my work and that tinge of disappointment because I couldn't make it 😔 . My mini-project which I did in my 3rd year on "Assessing Food Safety Knowledge and Practices among Food Service Providers on the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, (KNUST) Campus" was more than just a project; it was a labor of love, a test of perseverance, and a reminder that every late night and early morning was worth it. Being part of this prestigious international conference was a dream come true, and although I couldn't attend due to lack of funding, I'm humbled to know that a potential was seen in me and my work will be shared with the global Food Science Community. This moment was a reminder that our passions and dedication can take us further than we ever imagined. This experience has taught me to appreciate the small wins and to keep pushing forward, even when things don't go as planned. I'm proud of myself and everyone who supported me along the way; Institute of Food Technologists (IFT), Abena Boakye, PhD, Stephanie Walaszek and many more; Thank you very much!! Here's to many more moments of growth, learning, and success! 🎊 🎈 #IFTFIRST #Research #FoodScience #Reflection"

New Kiwi's often have researched the NZ culture, however, it tends to be "information" supplied by a Govt entity or course, which can be very 'death by powerpoint" or formal. If you look to our very own "pop-culture" or Kiwiana as its known, you'll find more meaningful insights such as this old DB Beer Ad from DB Breweries, which is on point related to: - Kiwi work ethic as shown by how the shirker (3rd beer drinker) is treated - Our cultural hero's - the ANZAC, the Rugby player and the Farmer/Tradie among a pub full of NZ icons - That religion is not the cornerstone of our culture, rather the pub and having a beer. Picking up of these and other nuances is a real education. Its not that all Kiwi live or behave like this exactly or literally, but we all appreciate the humour and the themes are congruent with our culture, behaviour, thinking and humour. We hope you have a good laugh, while getting the concepts to loosely apply to your understanding of Kiwi culture. #Culture #Kiwiana

𝗗𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗶𝘀 𝗕 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗽 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵? As a proud employee of a certified B Corp, I am constantly looking for ways to support other business that have chosen to be a force for good. So, in honor of B Corp month, each week in March I'm going to shine the spotlight on one of my favorite fellow B Corps! I'm kicking-it off with a highlight of an amazing B Corp and my very favorite craft brewery. All the way from Athens, Georgia, it's Creature Comforts Brewing Co. Since their beginning, Creature Comforts has been committed to brewing exceptional beers and cultivating a great space for human connection. In 2018, they officially earned their B Corp certification and have been dedicated to brewing a brighter future for their people, their community and the planet. Here are just a few ways Creature Comforts walks the walk: 🍻 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲: They prioritize employee well-being and offer competitive benefits. 🍻 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗳𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀: They source ingredients from local farms whenever possible, reducing their environmental footprint and strengthening the Athens community. 🍻 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘆: Their "Get Comfortable" program tackles a critical issue – low literacy rates in Athens. They've pledged to raise the percentage of 3rd graders reading on grade level from 20% to 60% over the next few years. 🍻 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀: Their "Brew For One" program creates a special beer each year with all profits going to a chosen recipient in need, what an amazing way to invest in the lives of those within their community. So, next time you're looking for a delicious brew, keep an eye out for Creature Comforts and raise a glass to good beer and good business practices. Where in the world is this?! 🌎 Famous for its unique landscape of mogotes, or steep limestone formations that rise up from the valley floor. In fact, it is the heart of the tobacco-growing region and is known for its high-quality cigars. The valley is home to several caves. Where do you think this place is located? A GLIMPSE OF THE FUTURE WITH FINNISH NYE TRADITION Have you tried it before? That's age-old custom: beeswax fortune telling, which brought me closer to a fascinating Finnish tradition. The process is pretty simple: melt a small piece of beeswax and then carefully pour it into a bowl of cold water. As the wax solidifies, it forms intriguing shapes, each a mystery to decipher. In the past, people used to melt tin, but sugar or beeswax are cheaper, safer, lead-free alternative with the same experience. My friends and I got: a horseshoe, an elephant and an Euro sign € 🐴 a horseshoe: A new job or a promotion ahead – a very lucky year 🐘: Great achievements and an adventurous year ahead There's no Euro sign 💶 in the traditional list. Then I decide to interpret this as a sign of money, wealth, and prosperity in 2024 😝 😜 😝 Stepping into the new year, I carry with me not only the positive omen of my beeswax but also a renewed sense of optimism and appreciation for the opportunities and efforts that lie ahead. #FinnishTraditions #CulturalExperience #FuturePredictions
