Estamos felices de compartir nuestra última publicación “Evaluation of the implementation of the school feeding program in Cali. The PAE at the blackboard” en colaboración con Christián Zapata de la Universidad del Valle. Abstract The aim of this article is to assess the execution of the School Feeding Program (Programa de Alimentación Escolar) [PAE] in Cali between 2016 and 2019, focusing on its role in promoting healthy eating habits. Clear, concise language and technical terms have been employed, with an objective and balanced approach throughout. The study used documentary analysis to explore the program’s development at both national and local levels, as well as the impact of new public management strategies since its establishment in 1936. In addition, stakeholder interviews were conducted and analyzed alongside program documents using the thematic networks methodology to characterize the program based on its theory. The primary findings suggest that while the program is effective, there are implementation flaws. As a result, adjustments in the design of the school feeding program are essential to gradually attain effect indicators. The results constribute to the construction of evaluative knowledge on new public management processes, in particular, in relation to effectiveness.

Founder at Maker: Revolutionizing Plant-Based Milk | Obama Foundation Leader | Advocate for Child Nutrition and Education | Entrepreneur & Change Maker | Speaker | Mom of Four
In 2017, I was deeply moved by a news article about children attending school hungry. As a mother, I felt compelled to act. 🌱 This led me to launch an advocacy campaign for a national school food program in New Zealand. Through this journey, I delved deep into childhood nutrition, learning firsthand how essential proper nourishment is for young minds and bodies to thrive. Working with agencies like the United Nations and the World Health Organization I gained insights into successful school food programs globally. Visiting schools in Cambodia and Italy reinforced my belief in food's transformative power. I learned that investing in children's health and education yields invaluable returns—not just for individuals, but for entire economies. Many Southeast Asian countries exemplify this principle, using education and nutrition as catalysts for economic growth and social progress. It saddens me to witness discussions about discontinuing the New Zealand school food program put in place by Jacinda Ardern in 2019. Though not perfect, it was a crucial step forward. The repercussions of short-sighted decisions by those in power are far-reaching, affecting not only our economy and healthcare system. As we navigate these challenges, let us remember the faces of those children whose futures hang in the balance. Let us strive for a future where no child goes hungry, where every meal is a testament to our collective compassion and commitment to a brighter tomorrow.

How do we support our autistic friends and loved ones to feel that sense of relational safety and connection? Some of my ideas below, what are yours? - Reduce demands and just be with the person without expectation, enjoying the flow. - Enter your person's world, taking jn what do they notice in their surroundings? what inspires them? can you appreciate that too and find ways to ensure its in their life every day. - When people - you or they - are stressed, take responsibility for your state; check your own breathing, try to bring your own body into as calm a state as possible. This is catching! - Try and make your interactions predictable- use schedules, timers, objects of reference, discussion as needed- don't assume even the most capable autistic person can predict things. Then the person can relax a bit more and have a bit more energy for change or novelty or surprises. - Find out about the person's sensory experience. If the world is too loud, buzzy with electrics, bright, socially unpredictable, smelly etc. it can make it impossible to fully relax or be fully present. Normalise checking in on sensory needs and using adaptations as needed. These are just a few of my ideas. Knowing that others understand how the autistic person may tick, and will respond to that, makes connecting with them so much easier, even when mistakes happen along the way. What are your thoughts on this?
Food, water, and shelter are NOT the most basic needs for an infant. Instead being socially connected and cared for is critical. Love and belonging might seem like a convenience we can live without but our biology is built to thirst for connection because it is linked to our most basic needs. - Dr. Matthew Lieberman Co-regulation provides the conditions and people who help us feel a sense of belonging! #education #educators #connection #schools #discipline #behaviors

Teaching isn't just about imparting knowledge; it's a journey of mutual growth. As a #RegisteredDietitian guiding undergrads in nutrition at City University of New York-Herbert H. Lehman College, I believe in the power of learning from each other. From self-assessment to student feedback, this semester proved to be a space for improvement and shared insights. #NutritionEducation #CUNY #LehmanCollege #TeachingAndLearning #AdjunctLife
