Wouldn't it be nice if you could destroy PFAS in biosolids AND generate net-positive energy ⚡ in the process? It's not as far-fetched as it sounds. AirSCWO is a technology that uses supercritical water oxidation (SCWO) to remove organic contaminants like PFAS from biosolids. At a big enough scale, the process can generate enough heat to produce electricity. Hazen recently partnered with 374Water, the company behind AirSCWO, and Orange County Sanitation District to pilot this innovative technology. What to do with all those biosolids? It's becoming a tough question for wastewater plants to answer amid potential new PFAS regulations for biosolids, concerns about their carbon footprint, and the rising cost of treating and transporting them. There's a growing list of new biosolids treatment technologies that could address those problems, but how do you pick the right one for your utility? Hazen has designed a Power BI dashboard that does just that. It covers key details about 36 innovative biosolids technologies such as gasification (shown in the photo) and pyrolysis. And it's just one of a suite of analytical tools we're developing with The Water Research Foundation (WRF) and SYLVIS Environmental Services to help biosolids managers make informed decisions in a rapidly changing biosolids landscape. Free for MABA Members - North East Biosolids and Residuals Association (NEBRA) Lunch & Learn Friday, December 8, Noon to 1 pm ET Ultra-High Temperature Ionic Gasification for Biosolids Register HERE: https://lnkd.in/e3tfrQHg Presenters: Jim Henderson, Heartland Water Technology, Director of Business Development Brandon Davis, Heartland Water Technology, Director of Engineering The biosolids treatment industry plays a pivotal role in managing organic waste by converting it into valuable resources. Recent regulatory developments concerning per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) have significantly impacted end use options, particularly land application. This has further exacerbated the existing lack of capacity for managing biosolids and increased operational costs for water resource recovery facilities -- especially in the Northeast. In this Lunch & Learn webinar, industry experts from Heartland Water Technology will describe a new service designed specifically for on-site biosolids treatment as an alternative to landfilling or other thermally based strategies. Heartland’s Biosolids Conversion Service brings together next generation low temperature conductive drying (LTC Dry) with a plasma based ultra-high-temperature ionic gasification (HelioStormTM). This comprehensive solution provides up to 95% mass reduction (90% carbon conversion) with assured PFAS destruction, all at the lowest total cost of operation though a non-capital investment model. Come hear all about it on Friday. And bring your questions!

We did it🏆 Purecontrol received a distinction at the prestigious Global Water Summit last week, as Breakthrough Company of the Year ! You want to know why ? As Global Water Intelligence (GWI)points out " Purecontrol’s product is differentiated in the crowded artificial intelligence space by its ability to dynamically adjust using real-time data, as opposed to historic patterns. Without the need for a long data collection period." 🤜Our data-driven approach makes our solution very flexible and easy to implement in just few months, from small to very large scale facilities. And that’s just one of the many reasons why we were distinguished. This award reflects our major achievements of the year 2023 such as : 💦Breaking out beyond wastewater treatment, Purecontrol now has solutions for the full water cycle (aeration process, phosphorus removal, Nitrous Oxyde (N2O), dynamic drinking water pumping cycles optimization and storage) 🎯Securing deployments at 500 french wastewater treatment plants in an agreement with global operator Veolia. You missed the Global Water awards ceremony? Don’t worry here is a video to catch-up THE best moment ▶️ You want to know more about our breakthrough technology? 🏭#Microplastics (MPs) and poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances (#PFASs) have global attention due to their pervasive presence and significant environmental impact. While much research has focused on MPs and PFASs individually, their interrelation remains unexplored. 🔬Studies reveal that some everyday products can be sources of both MPs and PFASs, e.g. cleaning products and personal care products, with their distribution primarily influenced by human activities. 🚰PFASs can attach to MPs, turning them into vectors of contamination through electrostatic and hydrophobic interactions, affected by environmental conditions and pollutant properties. This interaction complicates the transport and toxicity of these substances, especially in aquatic environments. ⚗️Their joint presence poses unique challenges in terms of toxicity and environmental behavior, yet requires more integrated research and innovative solutions. Addressing these issues requires advanced technologies and comprehensive strategies. 🌊SATOORNIK Gen I advanced separation tech, offers a solution for addressing the complex issue of MPs and PFASs in water, wastewater, and polluted waters. Gevo’s Climate-Smart Farm-to-Flight Program is aimed at tracking and quantifying the carbon-intensity impact of climate-smart practices while creating market incentives for low carbon-intensity (CI) corn to help accelerate production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and low-CI ethanol. There are frequently misconceptions from farmers about what participation in the program requires, or how restrictive it might be to their operations. https://lnkd.in/dHrz8aKN

Free for MABA Members - NEBRA Lunch & Learn - Friday, April 26, Noon to 1 pm ET Register here: https://lnkd.in/ehhykxZc Two Presentations in One from EPA! The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Clean Water Technology Center with Searchable Clearinghouse of Wastewater Technology and Biosolids Program Guidance for Lagoon Cleanouts Presenters: Jerome Oliver Tess Richman U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Clean Water Technology Center/SCOWT: EPA’s Clean Water Technology Center is committed to supporting access to reliable, affordable, and resilient wastewater infrastructure that protects human health and water quality. One of the many resources within this center is the Searchable Clearinghouse of Wastewater Technology (SCOWT). SCOWT is an information-sharing platform that provides resources on the cost-effectiveness and performance of innovative, alternative, and reuse wastewater technologies. You will learn about SCOWT’s functionality and see a demonstration. Biosolids Program Summary: As excess sewage sludge accumulates in wastewater treatment lagoons over time, their functionality and effectiveness are reduced. Excess accumulated sludge requires periodic removal to maintain full functioning capacity of the wastewater treatment process within the lagoon. Back in February 2024, the EPA published Understanding Lagoon Requirements Under 40 C.F.R. Part 503: Best Management Practices for Use or Disposal of Sewage Sludge, Part 1 – Land Application of Sewage Sludge Removed from Lagoons. EPA will review this guidance that provides wastewater operators with best management practices for complying with the Clean Water Act and the biosolids regulation when land applying sewage sludge that has been removed from lagoon treatment systems.
Welcome! You are invited to join a webinar: Lunch and Learn About: EPA's Clean Water Technology Center/SCOWT and Biosolids Program. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email about joining the webinar.
