If you can’t get in, kick the bl**dy door down The message is loud and clear and I believe we are ready for it At the Invest in Women Taskforce event last night I heard different stories about women’s struggle for investment and the hopes to change the playing field The speakers talked of structural changes, pipelines, increasing more female angels and (my particular field) the grant landscape. This comes from the Rose Review, the Government’s commitment to continuing to support the Invest In Women Taskforce, spurred along (I hope) by the recent Innovate UK u-turn which I was particularly impressed to see happen. THAT was change. Real tangible practical change. As a result of women’s actions, 25 more women had their projects funded. And I can’t wait to hear all about them when they can share their news. As someone who had Innovate UK funding I know what it means. Confidence, belief, possibility. But back to the event. There were a lot of people in the room - female founders, business owners, stakeholders, representatives- call them what you like. A rich diversity of the business landscape. Male and female It made me think. So I asked the question “What’s the one thing that each of us in the room can do to support this change ?” Because we don’t have to wait … I believe we can each do something. A small ripple makes a wave - the Let's Fund More Women team proves that. My suggestion ? Tell a female founder, a women in business, your daughter/sister/aunt/cousin, that they CAN win funding for their idea, that it IS out there and we ARE challenging the status quo. To never give up Kick the bl**dy door down if they won’t let you in And, there will be many frogs you to kiss before you find the right one (and I’ve kissed plenty 🙄), but it’s worth it 🧡 🐸 🧡 📸 is the power of the sea, a snap from Norfolk and the waves - my other choice was going to be Madonna as I sang loudly to her “best of” all the way home….but the waves are right for now.

Stepping into multiple roles as a Partnerships and Special Projects Lead isn't just about wearing different hats—it's about rising to the occasion. At the recent Game of Money conference, I had the honor of delivering the opening address before 1,000 participants. As I went through my address, three things resonated deeply: 1. My own personal relationship with money: Exploring how my financial attitudes has literally shaped many of my outcomes. For months now, I have had to uncover my underlying beliefs and values that drive my financial choices. 2. Empowering women through financial intelligence training: The fact that over half of the 2,369 individuals who registered for the conference were women underscores the pressing need for targeted financial education initiatives tailored to address their unique needs and challenges. Women around the world face distinct financial barriers and disparities, ranging from wage gaps to limited access to financial resources and decision-making power. These disparities are further compounded by factors such as gender norms, cultural expectations, and systemic inequalities. 3. The impactful initiatives of Reb360 and WIRE Africa: Transforming lives through innovative real estate solutions. In just three years at Reb360 our collective efforts have seen the launch of 10 Estates, each representing a testament to our commitment to wealth creation and people empowerment through real estate. Our mission is clear: to leverage real estate as a platform for transformation, providing safe and profitable investment opportunities while uplifting individuals and communities. At the core of our endeavors lie our unwavering core values: Growth, Excellence, Integrity, and Innovation. These values guide every aspect of our operations, ensuring that our initiatives are not only impactful but also sustainable in the long term. Game of Money Conference was a resounding success, serving as Project Lead was fulfilling and I look forward to the next edition.

🎉 A Journey of Empowerment: From 300+ CVs to "Thought Leader" Finalist! 🎉 I'm incredibly honoured to be a finalist in the IFA (Independent Financial Adviser)'s Excellence Awards 2024 "Thought Leader of the Year" category. This recognition is a testament to the power of perseverance and passion – from sending out hundreds of CVs to now advocating for a brighter future for the financial advice profession. My journey began with a personal challenge: my father's diagnosis with Multiple Sclerosis. This diagnosis ignited in me a desire to empower others through financial knowledge. I'm eternally grateful to Gary Snell and Katherine Isbrandt for thinking outside the square and taking a chance on me back in 2013 and to the incredible Pro Bono Financial Advice Network (PFAN) team, who inspire me daily to make sure we continue to build PFAN into an organisation that continues to support those in need. Along with my well-known thoughts on giving back to the community, I also want to share three additional thoughts on a vision for the future of financial planning: Unlocking Potential:  Financial advice isn't just about numbers; it's about unlocking human potential and how we connect and support each other daily. We need to champion the power of all of the diverse skills advisors have to guide individuals towards a life of financial security and freedom. Embracing Diversity:  The industry thrives on diverse perspectives. We need more incredible women to bring their unique talents to the table, creating solutions that truly serve everyone. Yesterday I attended a roundtable discussion that brought together an awesome group of people to discuss: Revising the UK's Invest in Women Code for Maximum Impact   Thanks to Shoosmiths for hosting, and the panellist Helen Burnell Alexandra Daly and Hephzi Pemberton 🙏 𝗦𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗸𝗲𝘆 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 🖊️ Signatories of the Invest in Women Code (IWC) have outperformed the market in terms of funding female-led businesses . However, challenges remain: - there is still vast underrepresentation of female investors on ICs - there are still 24% of signatories that have all male investment teams (and many more who haven't signed) - less than 2% of VC funding goes to all female teams (yes I am BORED for writing this too) 🏆 From analysis of the most successful funds, the key factors are: - diversity in decision making - diversity in the boots on the group (e.g. investors sourcing) - a focus on good data collection and analysis ✅ Many worry this is a tick box exercise and not an actual priority of the funds - data collection is hard and investors are busy - data is usually collected just before it needs to be reported, rather than as an on-going practice of the fund - how do we make this common practice? 🥕 So far the IWC has taken a carrot approach, to encourage good behaviour, but do we need more stick? - should there be more transparency on who is doing well and not well? - do we need more LPs to sign and not invest in funds that aren't taking their diversity seriously? - the signatories are usually the ones who care about this already, how do we get to those that don't? 🤬 It's obviously not f***ing working - can we do more? - do we need quotas, if not for founders then boards or c-suite? - do we need more action from the government, BBB etc to stop allocating tax payers money to funds that aren't taking this seriously?
