📝 ** Pitfalls of Predatory Conferences** In a latest article in *Nature* exposes the deceptive world of predatory conferences. Many of you receive such conference emails inviting you as “Distinguished Speaker”in Congresses/Conferences. I receive such kinds of emails almost daily. Researchers like Pía Loren (Nature sent a reporter to find out as part of an investigation into dud events) are lured by promises of reputable speakers and international recognition, only to find disorganized events and misleading claims. The rise of such "vulture conferences" undermines academic credibility and highlights the need for vigilance. Discover the full story and learn how to protect your research integrity. #AcademicIntegrity #Research #PredatoryConferences #ScienceCommunity #StayInformed

Whatever we might like to think, academics are vulnerable to fraud and predatory practices. Please read and be careful. I don't recommend ever resharing a meeting or conference unless you really know the people and organisation involved. The history of Beall's list is also a cautionary tale and reason why we are unlikely to be able to fight back effectively. Be careful out there and frankly an online conference should be close to free. The cost of "legitimate" conferences are very high. This makes us accepting of high prices and makes a fertile breeding ground for predators. More Universities should use their infrastructure in summer/holiday time to provide high quality low cost conferences. It isn't that hard, I have done it. https://lnkd.in/eRXPjXEN
