This is going to continue happening if we don't support the local businesses in our communities. Corporations drive out competition by making prices low but then when the competition is gone they control the pricing. As history shows they will also ship jobs overseas where they can utilize lower wages, less regulations, and tax evasion methods. 🙏♥️✝️ #ShoppingSmall #SupportingLocal #StrongerCommunities

We always champion homegrown Scottish retailers and spur people to support local businesses, so this week, it was sad to see a very sombre plea from a Glasgow store, which found itself suddenly closing up shop. The family-ran JJ’s Off Sales in Glasgow has closed its doors after 31 years in operation with a note in the window thanking customers for support, as well as a stark warning: ‘the supermarkets have won.’ In this digital age of online shopping and the convenience of giant retailers stocking a seemingly endless supply of everything, I think it’s going to be a challenging 2025 for smaller stores in our community. Let’s not take local businesses for granted because if we do, it may be a convenience that could well be lost.

Here's something you don't see nearly enough in retail at the moment ... cleaning. So massive kudos to Next in Martlesham today. It's all too easy when times are tough to cut hours in the shops and cleaning hours are often the first to go. Standards in some national retailers aren't good enough right now and that gives shoppers another reason to shop on line. This week I've been talking in the media about the very real impact of the budget on retailers operating models the challenges on store hours are only just beginning. #retail #retailoperations #standards

With shoplifting incidents increasing—14% in Atlanta and 24% in 23 major cities this year—retailers face mounting challenges during the holiday shopping season. Businesses like Refresh Atlanta are investing heavily in security after facing significant losses, but balancing safety with a welcoming shopping experience remains critical. Experts emphasize the need for better crime data to address these trends effectively. For communities, the impact is broader, affecting pricing and local economies. Retailers and shoppers alike are urged to prioritize positive actions to mitigate these issues. (SOURCE: 11ALIVE) #HawqueProtectionGroup #ShopliftingPrevention #RetailSecurity #CommunityImpact

Holiday shopping will look a whole lot different this year as U.S. retailers continue to drop like flies. The current economy is choking the life out of several iconic retail chains given that the higher cost of basic goods and services is forcing consumers to spend less. At the same time, the cost of running a business continues to climb, and disappointing sales numbers are putting many companies at risk of going bankrupt in the coming months. Have you noticed that empty storefronts are becoming far more common than they have ever been before? So far this year, big retailers already closed more than 4,000 locations. Industry experts estimate that figure will double by the end of 2024. They believe store closures will be 40% higher than they were in 2023. That will result in approximately 8 million square feet of vacant retail space across the U.S.

Local Data Company do we think it is self defeating to have too many of one business type within a few shops/metres of one another? Two recent examples which I’ve witnessed are ‘Coffee Shops’ in Fleet, Hampshire and ‘Barber Shops’ on the Uxbridge Road in West Ealing. Both very common business types I know across todays retail landscape but is it really the right approach and should it be encouraged?
