Our addiction wants us to be alone... In active addiction, shame, fear, self-judgement, and stigma often drive substance users into isolation. We end up using alone, and sadly, too often, we die alone. The opposite of addiction is connection. As a community, we need to work on compassion and understanding; we need to collectively work to reduce stigma and create safety for individuals who struggle with their substance use. As a society, we need to create more opportunities and lower barriers to accessing treatments and other life-saving interventions that allow substance users to realize sustained recovery from active addiction. As substance users, we need to resist the pull to isolate and use alone; the answers we need are found in community; you do not need to do this alone. RAGE AGAINST ADDICTION INC held its 10th annual Memory Walk & Recovery Run fundraiser. This significant event unites families, fostering healing from the profound impact of addiction and inspiring hope for recovery. On Saturday morning, experienced runners and casual walkers alike, dressed in their best athletic outfits and joined by their families and friends, participated in a run to support the fundraiser. It was a superb tabling event we are pleased to have participated in along with other organizations and partners. The current global situation presents undeniable challenges. Stress, uncertainty, and isolation are understandably affecting many, and it’s conceivable that some might resort to unconstructive coping methods. Almost 21 million Americans have at least 1 addiction, yet less than 10% receive help. That’s why we’re on a mission to offer Christ-centered addiction recovery services to as many men and women as possible. However, fighting addiction is a full team effort, and everyone has a role. Simon House has created a program that uses structure, education, and compassion to support those experiencing addiction in their recovery. While in Active Treatment, all clients are required to attend the following. -Five outside 12-step meetings -Weekly alumni speaker meetings -Monthly graduation meeting -Monthly Al-Anon meeting -Daily morning meditation -Daily house meeting Routine and structure are highly effective in supporting better mental well-being and have been shown to be incredibly useful in addiction recovery. At Simon House, our Active Treatment program is the first step that an individual experiencing addiction can take on their addiction recovery journey. We offer all services with the compassion and empathy that they deserve and have a long list of graduates who have found success in our approach to addiction recovery. Picking your #cause is about consciously choosing to have an impact or make a difference. I have a few key causes; free healthcare to those who need it. In the US, this is not always possible, and groups like The Good Shepherd Clinic in Atlanta are incredible in helping those who need it most in Clayton County with valuable services. In Sydney, Exodus is extremely important to the community. Everyone knows someone who has had a problem with drugs, alcohol or mental health. While we "think" there is a lot of support out there, try booking someone into seeing a psychologist fast (not possible -- bookings are months out) or rehab. Furthermore, domestic abuse. 111 women have already died in Australia this year. Can you imagine that? Crazy. At what point are we not consciously trying to change this? Well, the good news is that Exodus is trying to change, help and support these causes - but they need you. Donations are all put into the right places (not high salaries or perks like some others). (please feel free to share and do the same) A friend has created an incredible website (jewsinrecovery.org) the goal of this mission is to help publicize the already existing resources for people in the Jewish Community seeking recovery from substance abuse addiction. The goal is to use community based media channels (Magazines, Newspapers, Whatsapp statuses, Billboards) to publicize this website. So when someone you know if the community is struggling you know that you can jump over to jewsinrecovery.org and find resources that will actually help and are not there with any sort of profit motives. (all resources listed are free and not connected with any kind of money making operation) Please check out the website but more so, they are looking for a couple large backers (not looking to fundraise) that feel the mission at heart, that are willing to put some money behind it strictly for maintaining the web presence and paying for paid advertisements. Community Compass: Navigating Support Services | May 14 @ 6PM We know addiction treatment should be accessible to everyone, but there are outside barriers that can lead to complications in receiving it. Issues with insurance coverage or lack of transportation, employment, and finances are factors that can distract or prevent a person from receiving proper treatment and care. And, as family members, it's a challenge to even know where to start in finding appropriate resources for your loved one. Fortunately, there are tons of resources and social services available to combat these obstacles. From government organizations to charities and nonprofits, there's a world of programs patients, families, and supporters can access with the right assistance. This webinar is set to explore community resources and various navigation engines accessible to patients with different barriers to addiction treatment.
