According to the State of Global Air 2024 Report by the Health Effects Institute (HEI), air pollution has become the second leading risk factor for mortality worldwide, contributing to an estimated 8.1 million deaths in 2021. The report offers an in-depth analysis of air quality data and its health impacts across various countries. Of the total deaths linked to air pollution, up to 90% are attributed to noncommunicable diseases, such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, lung cancer, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Given these alarming statistics, it is now very important for governments, communities, and individuals (you and I)must prioritize clean air initiatives, advocate for stronger environmental policies, and adopt sustainable practices to protect public health and reduce the global disease burden. #cleanairforall #airquality Clean Air FundAllison Felix Hughes, Ph.D Shriram Manogaran

"An air quality index (AQI) averaging around 300 signifies severely polluted air, posing significant health risks to everyone, particularly vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and those with pre-existing health conditions. Exposure to such high levels of air pollution can lead to respiratory issues, exacerbate cardiovascular diseases, and increase the risk of lung cancer. Beyond the toll on human health, poor air quality also incurs substantial economic losses due to increased healthcare costs, lost productivity, and damage to ecosystems and infrastructure. It's imperative that we take urgent action to address air pollution and protect the health and well-being of our communities. #AirQuality #PublicHealth #EnvironmentalHealth"#Air Renew 😐 😑

Indoor air pollution refers to the contamination of the indoor environment by various pollutants that can harm human health. These pollutants can come from a variety of sources and can lead to a range of health issues, particularly in poorly ventilated spaces. Health EffectsExposure to indoor air pollution can cause a range of health problems, from short-term effects like eye and throat irritation to long-term effects such as respiratory diseases, heart disease, and cancer. Vulnerable groups, including children, the elderly, and those with pre-existing health conditions, are at greater risk.

As we mark World Environment Day, it's crucial to remember that our health is deeply intertwined with the health of our planet. Air pollution, a significant environmental concern, is a leading risk factor for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and can increase the risk of exacerbations. Emphasizing sustainable practices and advocating for cleaner air is not only crucial for managing COPD but also for reducing the burden on our healthcare systems. This World Environment Day, I urge each of us to #SpeakUpforCOPD and advocate for cleaner air and sustainable practices for healthier lungs and a healthier planet. Let's work together to create an environment that promotes health and sustainability for all. Recent research and EU policy shifts mark a critical turning point in our understanding of air pollution's impact on health. Key Highlights: 🔹 A Harvard study reveals the health risks of even minimal air pollution, highlighting increased cardiovascular disease hospitalisations. 🔹 The EU tightens air quality limits, aiming to safeguard public health. 🔹 Experts urge actions beyond the EU's steps to meet WHO's stringent air quality guidelines, emphasising the need for better protection, especially for outdoor workers. This pivotal moment underscores the importance of prioritising air quality in communities and workplaces. https://lnkd.in/eiW2sfCg #AirQuality #PublicHealth #FacilitiesManagement #EURegulations
