We've had a great last few days at the #LDConf in Brighton, talking to MPs about the health inequalities impacting millions across the UK. Your MPs want to hear from you and learn what matters to you. Health inequalities impact all of us in the UK but by signing our petition and emailing your local MP, you can help #MakeHealthEqual 👉https://lnkd.in/eAjEC_iD We're also going to be at the Labour or Conservative conferences, so if you are going to be there, come to our stall to say hello and check out our exhibit.

This summer, our #MakeHealthEqual campaign has travelled the UK, sparking conversations about life expectancy and what we can do to tackle inequality. We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has participated, shared, and supported our mission. Together, we’ve raised awareness and called on the government to take policy actions that will create a healthier, more equitable UK. But this is just the beginning! Look out for us over the rest of this year as we continue to strive for a future where everyone has the opportunity to live a healthy life, no matter where we are born and live. Sign up to our newsletter for updates on ways to get involved. Together, we can #MakeHealthEqual! 🙌 https://brnw.ch/21wMRyE

“Whole-government action on health and tackling inequalities is needed to reduce the life expectancy gap that is cutting lives short across the UK, and it’s great to see public support for this. Our health is shaped by the world around us, from quality homes that are warm and safe, to stable jobs and neighbourhoods with green space and clean air. Investment in these essential building blocks of good health will help us to make health equal.” - Paul McDonald, our Chief Campaigns Officer. Because of things like income, air quality and housing, where you're born can cut your life short by up to 16 years. REVEALED: how we think about health in Britain is changing.   Britain is sick. Because of things like poor housing, low-paid, insecure work and lack of local, healthy, affordable food, where we live can cut our lives short by as much as 16 years.   But the way most of us usually think about health is that it’s of our own making. Health is seen as being about what we eat, whether we drink or smoke and exercise. The context of how our surroundings shape our health has been missing from view. New research from our Moving Mindsets project - funded by The Health Foundation and Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) - reveals that is changing. More collective mindsets on health are emerging, and people are increasingly aware of how context shapes health as they see that things like low paid work and a lack of social supports are holding us back from health. The research also shows overwhelming public backing for government action on health - 72% of people supported a long-term whole government commitment to improving health. Three ways advocates and public health professionals can make the most of this moment to secure greater political action on health: #1 Position public health asks as for the national good #2 Continue to explain how society shapes health to reinforce this thinking #3 Be clear our government has a robust mandate for action to reduce health inequalities Read the full research and discover more tips: https://lnkd.in/gxn8stKk

Does your work pay the real Living Wage? Having a good and stable income allows us to do things like heat our homes – when we don’t have the money to do this, our health suffers. Over 12,000 businesses now pay the real Living Wage, which has meant 300,000 people have had their wages increased to ensure they meet the cost of everyday needs. This improves many anxieties and gives people the opportunity to look after their health and future. What's for your lunch today? It can be a challenge balancing a healthy lunch but also not paying through the teeth for it. Affording and accessing nutritious food is a serious problem for many across the UK. You might be able to afford food, but not nutritious food and this impacts your health to such an extent that where you're born can cut your life short by up to 16 years. This lunchtime, take 2 seconds to make a difference by signing our petition to encourage our government to #MakeHealthEqual 👉 https://brnw.ch/21wMpu8

Since 2010, earnings have not grown in real terms, and for many people, especially those in the public sector, they have decreased. This means that the money we are taking home from work doesn’t go as far towards our rent, food and bills and we have less to spend on activities that boost our health such as being able to travel to meet up with friends and family. Financial insecurity harms our mental health. People across all income levels and circumstances worry about money – and long-term stress can cause anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues. This #NationalPayrollWeek take control of the money in your pocket and learn more about how it shapes our health 👉https://hhttps://brnw.ch/21wMnLj
