RESEARCH INSIGHTS ON »HOW CAN SCIENTISTS ASSESS THE IMPACT OF THEIR OPEN INNOVATION ACTIVITIES? »KTT Impact Canvas« for assessment of transfer activities taking crowdsourcing as an example« We are delighted to announce that Iliyana Madina, Malgorzata Thonagel, Anne Becker-Mironici and Emily Tapper from Crowd Innovation@Fraunhofer IMW with the support of Prof. Carolin Bock from Technische Universität Darmstadt are invited to present their research insights at this year's OIS Research Conference within the special OIS Use Case session. The conference is organized by LBG Open Innovation in Science Center and will take place on 21-23 May 2024 in #London. In their practical contribution, our colleagues address the growing need for methodology and recognized indicators for #impact assessment. The »KTT Impact Canvas« will be presented as an useful tool to help researchers plan, identify, and evaluate their impact. Furthermore, the Canvas will be used to develop a validated concept for impact assessment with relevant indicators for open innovation with #crowdsourcing as an example. Based on this concept, the impact of eight crowdsourcing challenges will be assessed in the next three years. The organization of the #challenges is a part of our BMBF project #CrowdInnovation. In future, the »KTT Impact Canvas« and the tested concept should also make it possible to record the impact of other transfer activities in the field of #openinnovation. The results can also contribute to strengthen the relevance, acceptance, and visibility of the impact of open innovation among researchers and in society. My enthusiastic accomplices for this lecture series Isabelle Schiffer, Ph.D, Christin Menke, and I work as Innovation Scouts and Start-Up Coaches at three different universities in Germany (Köln, Münster, Bochum). One of the major hurdles is the 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐟 "𝐏𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐨𝐫 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐡" - publications are the currency in the academic world. While we appreciate reading about groundbreaking discoveries in scientific journals, we also recognize 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐠𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐚𝐩 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. To address this, we have organized an 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 that aims to provide insights and inspiration in a concise and easily digestible format. As a kid growing up I always wanted to work at CERN. Never made it there, but at least got to the IdeaSquare - the innovation space at CERN. Well a publication in the CERN IdeaSquare Journal of Experimental Innovation, that is. With Gernot Pruschak (BFH Wirtschaft), Marielle Feenstra and Claudia Werker (both at Delft University of Technology) we analyzed five European research consortia within the ATTRACT 2 ecosystem. It highlights that inbound open innovation activities, such as incorporating external expertise; and coupled open innovation activities, involving collaboration with peers and business projects, can compensate for a lack of entrepreneurial intentions among scientists. I learned so much from everyone on the Talent Development panel hosted by SPRIND - Bundesagentur für Sprunginnovationen - @falling-walls.com In Sweden, "Professors priveledge" is a legal requirement for Prof.s and PhDs to own their own IP. Rather than trying capture value from early-stage ideas, this helps universities like KTH Royal Institute of Technology focus on growing comapanies, investing in and strengthening the ecosystem. Prof.s priveledge also normalises spinout labs where one Prof. can support invention for multiple spinout companies over her career. Lisa Ericsson thank you for lessons from "The Land of the Unicorns"! In Singapore, organisations like SGInnovate grew Singapore's innovation ecosystem from the gound up. They understand how to anticipate skills gaps and create workforce policy proposals based on the holes popping up in startup teams. Juliana Lim, your anecdotes were delightful! At Reyedar, diagnoses visual and neurodegeneration problems early and safely. They've never struggled with recruitment because they put 1 line at the start of every job description: "If you want to change the world work here." Then they're inundated with high-quality applications. Thanks for sharing Alessandro Grillini! Maybe this is to be expected when Benoit Schillings, one of the most calmly audacious people I've ever met, kicks off your panel with the principles of X, the moonshot factory.
