In the Spring Budget, the government announced an extra £2.5 billion in day-to-day revenue funding for the NHS in England for 2024/25. With many Trusts feeling frustrated at reduced budgets in 2023/24 with clinical staffing taking priority, 2024/25 and the influx in funding represents an at least temporary opportunity for non-clinical staffing departments to bolster their resources, begin long-term projects, or complete existing ones that had to be parked when the budget wasn’t there. As the article notes there are many roles which were listed on the sunshine list and which are duplication amongst many municipalities across Niagara. Whether it is the role of fire chief, director of finance, planning, economic development there is a myriad of duplicated roles across Niagara and ample opportunities to mitigate these duplicated roles by coming together. Niagara taxpayers can no longer afford the duplicated costs associated with the administration of government services here in Niagara. It is time for the province to step and facilitate change. #timeforchange

Ever thinning blue line 👇 Budget challenges which have resulted in reduced officer numbers will lead to victims being failed and criminals being dealt with in an “inferior manner”, frontline cops have warned. A series of damning emails from officers across the country have highlighted the dire state of conditions they are facing, including cops working on shifts below minimum staffing levels, increased stress, insufficient resources and elapsed safety training. The Scottish Police Federation (SPF) called for members to report the impact budget constraints were having on the front line, ahead of the recent Scottish budget which saw an unexpected increase for policing. Officers reported a worrying trend of low morale, decreasing numbers, and time spent dealing with mental health calls. A crackdown on overtime could also lead to cases not being concluded properly, they warned. One officer wrote: “Due to the cuts on overtime I fear very quickly things will fall through the cracks, instructions will be misunderstood. “Officers not being able to stay on for an extra 30 mins to two hours max to complete packages, custody cases etc and hand them over to oncoming shifts means that, inevitably somewhere along the line, a victim will be failed and an accused will, to put it generally, be dealt with in an inferior manner compared to what they otherwise would.” Read the full story here ➡️ https://lnkd.in/d9vadRY3 ✍️ Gemma Fraser
