I’ve had a great few days with some fantastic people, from Wavelength and all the excellent cohort on the Connect programme. We’ve been looking at culture and transformation, purpose and values, mental health and wellbeing equity, diversity and inclusion and the leadership role in all of this. All lead by brilliant speakers openly sharing their personal experiences and learnings and fantastically curated, coordinated and organised (and many thanks to everyone). A theme that came through for me was about duty. A duty to people, to business, to society, to the planet. It reminded me of a great book I read called ‘A Duty of Care’ that I would highly recommend, by Peter Hennessy. It covers a discussion on politics with real social purpose and the importance of consensus when it comes to the really great challenges and opportunities. As it says, part history and part manifesto. It identifies key areas of social care, social housing, technical education, Artifical Intelligence and combating and mitigating climate change. And it’s more complicated than ever, as it comes to critical issues for economic prosperity and societal health and wellbeing, because these areas overlap with themselves and other areas and need a coordinated and integrated approach. Very interesting, particularly right now in the UK as we listen to and absorb multiple manifestos and see how our political leaders are engaging.
