Kia ora Dargaville! We’re excited to announce the launch of our Men-Tall Health Club in your community, starting on Monday 4th November at Rugby Park. Our Monday night meet-ups offer a safe, supportive space where men can simply come together to talk. Our focus? Encouraging open conversation to help prevent suicide – a significant issue in our rural communities. This isn’t about therapy or mental health ‘chats’ that might feel heavy. Instead, it’s about giving blokes the opportunity to connect, share, and lighten the load through regular, honest kōrero. Whether you’re feeling good or need a bit of support, there’s no pressure. We’re here to help change the narrative around what it means to talk about the hard stuff. If you’re in Dargaville, Kaipara, or the surrounding areas, come along – it’s a chance to talk, listen, and support one another. Details: 📅 Starting: Monday, 4th November ⏰ Time: 6:30-8:30 PM 📍 Location: Rugby Park, Dargaville Whether you’re a farmer, a tradesman, or anything in between, you’re welcome. PE Teacher I Motivated to inspire, lead and create opportunities for all in education through PE and Sport I PGDE BSc (Hons)
A change has to start some where Gregor Angus. There are so many contributing factors to the decline in sports participation across the country, local clubs and the lack of funding leading to less opportunities is part of. Also, what’s happening in schools, every child is in education so how can this help plug a gap if there aren’t opportunities in the wider community. Also what’s happening in our professional and amateur sporting organisations, how is the dropout at the intermediate or top level of sport impacting young people and are they staying active and involved. As a country, we have to look at all the stakeholders and see how we can all do better, streamline and use each other in a positive way, it doesn’t bode well for the future if it continues as is!!
As the 2024 Olympics get starts it is sad to see that post-COVID our children are falling further behind our European peers in playing sports. We all know that physical activity is good for us. In fact it’s been cited as a ‘miracle cure’. Sport England's new research shows the huge value that physical activity has on society and the economy, including improving our health, preventing illness and saving the NHS billions. However, in London we’re facing a physical inactivity crisis with those in the poorest communities facing the greatest challenges of inequalities and barriers to leading an active life, which has a detrimental impact on their health and well-being. We need more investment and commitment from local and national Government - as well as corporates, elite sport and others - to create more equitable access to sport and physical activity, and unlock the huge benefits for our economy, health and society.

It’s time to listen and change! Sport England report reflects the value and importance of sport and physical activity. As individuals, as employees, as employers and as a nation we have to listen and change. A healthier population could save the NHS over £10Bn a year in healthcare costs - through prevention of illness, reducing mental health demands, and fewer GP visits. With the added benefit of less sickness absence from work and increased productivity. We all want to feel that bit fitter, happier and healthier and this report makes it clear that there are profound social and economic benefits from participating in sports and physical activities. But don’t worry - you don’t need to get your football boots on or tackle a marathon. Just do what you can - Take the dog for a walk, get off the bus a stop earlier, take the stairs rather than the lift…..and do it with family, friends or colleagues. There are real benefits to being outside, to exercise and sharing these occasions with others. The benefits are huge - not just to you, but to the nation. CSSC we encourage our members - who come from across the U.K. Public Sector - to enjoy a huge array of opportunities and activities - as individuals or with family and friends - this incl free access to English Heritage sites, Kew Gardens, Cadw as well as substantial discounts on tickets or membership of many gyms, theatres, zoos, amusement parks and cinemas. We really do want our members to “Get Up, Get Out & Get Active”. For just £4.99 a month our members can save £££s! And enjoy the health benefits too. Look at www.CSSC.co.uk And, until the end of Oct new members can get “12 months membership for just 9 months fee”! We want you to seize the opportunity to be more active. #MyCSSC #UKActive #SportEngland #wellbeing

Research published today by Sport England, calculates the current annual social value of community sport and physical activity at £107.2 billion, including £10.5 billion in savings to the health and social care system each year. This is an important addition to the mountain of evidence that makes the case for why sport and physical activity are central to addressing the challenges the nation is facing. Now imagine how much higher this would be if the barriers which result in shocking inequalities in access to sport and physical activity could be removed! As a sports for development charity, social impact is at the heart of everything we do and we stand ready to work with Sport England, the government, and our sector partners, to make change a reality. True to our vision, mission and Manifesto for Change, we will continue to focus on ensuring disadvantaged and disabled children and young people are at the heart of this work. Sport England’s research identifies that getting children and young people active generates £8.6 billion in social value. This translates to a wellbeing value of £4,100 per active child annually. The research also identified an equivalent well-being value of £5,100 per active adult with a disability or long-term health condition, more than double than for the average active adult. This brilliant video provides a great example of the social impact that can be achieved when the barriers to sport and physical activity are removed. It showcases our cycling outreach programme in Greater Manchester, supported by Nuffield Health, which last year alone generated a staggering £2.4 million in social value. Click here to watch our video - https://lnkd.in/ec_n7xbN Our hope is that this research helps to reinforce the important role sport can play across society and drives the cross-sector investment and collaborative working we now need to achieve real change.
