Exciting news for the PIOB community! The Public Interest Oversight Board | PIOB has recently released its quarterly oversight publications which provide valuable insights into how the PIOB identifies public interest issues and carries out its oversight work. The Briefing Memos, prepared by the PIOB oversight team, provide background on the SSB projects and offer commentary on relevant public interest issues, while the Observation Memos, prepared by PIOB observers, provide a summary of matters of public interest and due process in relation to the standards discussed during the SSBs meetings. The 2024-2025 aid year has delayed the start of the financial aid cycle. As a result, financial aid teams are facing short-term pressure to implement effective communications surrounding FAFSA delays and inform students and families during the decision-making process which can feel complicated and intimidating. Here's his responses to our five questions: ❓ Why did you join the board of MSDC? "I was interested in the concept of one entity established to generate a source of revenue for the benefit of all the #MetisSettlements in #Alberta. A source that would be sustainable and outside of their individual efforts to achieve #economicindependence!" ❓ If MSDC could do anything, what one thing would you like to see us accomplish? "I would like to see MSDC achieve the goal of generating sustainable revenue for its Limited Partners and establish its Investment Fund strategy." ❓ What is your biggest piece of advice for aspiring indigenous board directors? "Don’t be afraid to expand your skills with additional training such as the Institute of Corporate Directors offerings which include Not-For- Profit, and their ICD. Designations or other such training. #CorporateCanada is looking for representation from the #IndigenousCommunity so don’t be afraid to put your name out there with your skills and training front and center highlighting what you bring to the table!" ❓ What is the biggest challenge for economic reconciliation? "#CorporateCanada must come to the table with genuine and real opportunities for #indigenouspeople to succeed and participate in this country’s economy, to share in its resources in a responsible and respectful way, to live in safe and healthy communities, anything less is a #failure ." ❓ If you could have dinner with anyone in the world, living or dead, who would it be and what would you talk about?
