Often overlooked, hip strength can influence not only postural stability but also reduce the risk of lower back pain while generally maximizing leg mobility. Lunge Walk Test: Start with your feet shoulder width apart. Bring one leg forward into a walking lunge, and come back up. Alternate each leg for about 4 steps. (https://lnkd.in/gDCuSf3p) If your knee caves in as you lunge down or if your knee is unstable then that may indicate weakness in your hip abductors such as the glute medius/minimus. 2024_02_04 “Walking in L.A.,” by “Missing Persons” 1982, YouTube version Though I love this old song, I love it due to its sound/beat, not its message. In the past I watched a lot of MTV too which this song's video fit. The song’s lyrics seemed somewhat disappointingly realistic. I really disliked old traffic in the L.A. region. Later I met similar traffic in Northern California. Yet, I have been grateful for seemingly better organized public transit and other less traffick-y transportation, including hiking. I understand per many social media posts, and some articles, that Southern California has better transportation and appreciation for hiking than it use to. Things and people can change. Unfortunately though, lately, in my neighborhood, it seems young adults, mostly female, in the east part of Sacramento County [unincorporated] into Rancho Cordova, are occasionally seemingly embracing this 'motorized car/nobody walks’ culture condemning pedestrians, joggers and bicyclists [or more specifically me] possibly because of feelings of needs to be more human efficient, maybe because of their dependent’s needs, maybe because of too much sugar/caffeine…. or maybe for needs to wipe out certain people for competitive or hateful reasons. It is as if “they” receive a “signal” on occasion to speed, disobey usual traffic rules, target and harass. I hope not. It's a dangerous concept. Humans are too squishy/light weight/breakable compared to a tonnage motorized vehicle.
