Imagine being asked to choose between your best friend, and a bed for the night. Imagine having to refuse medical care because there is no one to care for your pet. Imagine having no fixed abode so no registered vet, and your animal is sick and needs care. Street paws works to help maintain the bond between humans and their pets by working to ensure being homeless does not mean leaving your pet behind in order to get ahead in life. As April marks National Stress Awareness Month, we want to shed light on the immense challenges faced by front-line rescue workers. The theme for 2024 is #LittleByLittle, which highlights the transformative impact of consistent, small positive actions can have. Recently, we introduced you to Oriana Samuelsen, a firefighter whose journey took her from the highways of Washington State to the streets of Iraq, where she encountered the brave street dog, Big Girl, and her pack. Oriana's journey led her to WarPaws, where she continues to care for these vulnerable animals, despite the inevitable heartaches. Witnessing cruelty and neglect takes its toll, compounded by the constant financial struggles of running an animal rescue shelter. However, through awareness and support, we can make a difference. AARF is a Baltimore based 100% volunteer 501c3 non-profit. We specialize in rehabilitating physically abused cats and dogs who find their way into Baltimore area municipal shelters such as BARCS. We are no-kill. This is expensive work. I personally volunteer as a cat medical foster. I have cared for and rehabbed burned,blinded and physically cripppled cats and kittens. If we csmt find homes for them, they are “mine” for the rest of their lives. If you have not tasted this ice cream, personally I think it puts all others to shame.
