Artists need to become businesses because you are a business. As Jay Z said " I'm a Business, man" but still artists are missing this gem, they still go after IG likes and views and do not bother to build systems that funnel down real fans from which they can build communities. Most artists still don't have an email list, still don't know who their true fans are, still not building connections with fans, and think they are entitled to fans just loving their music without providing any benefits to them. Artists are too fooled by metrics and do not do a deep dive into what those metrics mean and how to analyze them. Therefore they keep spending money in the wrong places and looking for a magic wand. There is no magic wand except to build gradually, get to know your audience, and train them to spend money with you on what you offer. Fans are ready to spend money with you if what you offer is considered valuable to them, and value can only be considered valuable by the receiver. So in 2024, you have to think more than just as an artist you have to think like a "business, man". There is no excuse for not knowing the business, so many free resources online. The artists who are taking their careers seriously and treating it as a business are winning and that's on the independent level. So I urge you to please wake up from your slumber, no one cares till you make them care.
